Conservative New Hampshire paper backs Biden -- its first Democratic endorsement in 100 years
Source: CNN
The New Hampshire Union Leader, a conservative-leaning newspaper, has endorsed Democratic candidate Joe Biden for president, despite its century-long history of backing Republicans. In backing Biden, the newspaper endorsed its first Democratic candidate in over 100 years. "Building this country up sits squarely within the skill set of Joseph Biden. We have found Mr. Biden to be a caring, compassionate and professional public servant," the Union Leader editorial board wrote on Sunday. "He has repeatedly expressed his desire to be a president for all of America, and we take him at his word." The paper's editorial board did however highlight what it calls "significant" policy disagreements with Biden, which the board says it expects to spend a "portion of the next four years disagreeing with." "Joe Biden may not be the president we want, but in 2020 he is the president we desperately need," the editorial continued. "He will be a president to bring people together and right the ship of state." Read more: https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/25/media/new-hampshire-union-leader-democrat-endorsement-joe-biden/index.html

1. "Reject Тяцмр but also fill Congress with his enablers."
Kind of a shitty endorsement really. They’re basically saying they want gridlock for four years.

6. Exactly. That whirring sound you hear is William Loeb III turning over in his grave

5. Remember how great Trump was looking before COVID? Me neither. I looked to make sure I was
remembering right. Piss poor approval. The worst since they polled for that last December. His disapproval numbers were also the worst ever. He may have been able to cheat his way to being elected with no pandemic, but I can't really see it now.

17. Correct
COVID has been a useful metonymic reference for the real issue that is driving this election: character. It’s about a hateful, untruthful, vulgar, and ignorant character vs. a caring, honest, and competent one.
Trump’s failure of character is starkly evident in his approach to COVID, but it started much earlier with the Muslim ban, the children in cages, the equivalency of peaceful protesters and neo-Nazis, the attacks on the press, the belittling of women, and the never ending stream of patent lies. This was all apparent from Day 1, and reflected in his approval numbers. There was never a honeymoon. I’ve never seen an election where the main, underlying issue is character, but here we are. It really is down to Obnoxious Crazy Uncle vs. Mr. Rogers. |

8. Never thought I'd live to see the day.
The 'Useless Leader" as I call it gives a lukewarm endorsement to a Democrat.
Old timers will remember Bill Loeb's less-than-ringing endorsement in the 1972 election--Hold Your Nose and Vote for Nixon. |

10. They hated Ford in 1976
After Ford picked Rockefeller as his VP, the UL's front page editorial headline:
"Lemon Plus Lemon Equals Bitter Lemon" They loved Reagan. Compared to Loeb, though, Ronnie was a bit too moderate. |

13. My local paper did too.
I've never seen that in 50 years of reading it, at least not that I recall. They always have a conservative cartoon heading the editorial page and usually take a republican view in their editorials.
Not this time. Now they're endorsing Joe Biden and listed a litany of reasons why Trump is unfit for office. Shocked me, but they didn't endorse him in 2016 either. Instead they chose not to support either candidate. They're also endorsing a number of dems down ballot this year. |

as it has long been known by the Democrats up here.
This is surprising. |
