GOP senator attends Barrett hearings in person after COVID-19 diagnosis

Source: MSN/The Hill

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said Monday morning that he plans to attend Judge Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court confirmation hearings in person this week, despite testing positive for COVID-19 earlier in the month.

Lee said he has been cleared by Congress's attending physician to show up in the hearing room because he is "no longer contagious."

"I'm feeling great. Ready to be back in the saddle and excited for today's hearings to begin. I'll be participating in person. I've gotten the signoff from the Office of the Attending Physician," he told conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt on Monday.

"I've gone through the appropriate number of days and I've been keeping my temperature under control and I'm no longer contagious," he added.

Trump and his Republican supporters once again demonstrate why the laws and ethics only apply to other people, and illustrate why under their leadership, the pandemic continues to rage. Of course, if you are not a rich President or Senator with unlimited free health care, you would get arrested if you engaged in their type of conduct:

Florida pair arrested for breaking COVID-19 quarantine order

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Jose Freire Interian was walking his dog near his Key West home when a neighbor began recording him on her cellphone. Hours later, police came knocking on his door with an arrest warrant and whisked Freire and his wife to the county jail. The charge: violating quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19.

As a national debate swirls over masks and self-quarantines, communities are grappling over how aggressively they should enforce myriad rules meant to control the spread of the novel strain of coronavirus, which has now infected more than 460,000 in Florida and killed nearly 6,600 of its residents.

“It’s a national debate up until the health department tells you to quarantine, and then there’s no more debate," Key West City Manager Greg Veliz said Thursday.

“If the law allows someone to be arrested for violating a quarantine order and they continue to thumb their nose at the law — yeah, they should be arrested," Veliz said.

means he still has a fever and needs meds to keep it under control. That does not sound like he is over anything. JMO

he is still contagious if he is keeping his temperature under control. What an idiot. If you had the flu and said that, it means you still have the flu.

I know she's had Covid before, but after reading about people who got it again (or relapsed), I wonder.

9. That's why Harris and Leahy are attending this hearing from their offices. Not worth the risk.

I wonder if the doctor that "cleared" him is one that was forced to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement?
