Man charged in shooting attack on two L.A. County deputies in Compton

Source: LA Times

L.A. County Dist. Atty. Jackie Lacey announced charges Wednesday morning against a man in the shooting attack on two deputies at the Compton Metro station earlier this month.

Attempted murder charges were filed against Deonte Lee Murray, 36, who was taken into custody after a lengthy standoff in Lynwood on Sept. 15, Lacey said. At the time, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Murray was suspected in an armed carjacking and was not involved in the shooting.

The deputies — a 31-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man who have not been identified by the Sheriff’s Department — were shot in the face and head while sitting in their patrol car near the Compton Metro station on Sept. 12. They underwent surgery, and both have since been released from the hospital.

Murray, who was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, was charged at the time with one felony count each of carjacking, second-degree robbery and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The charges include allegations of association with a criminal street gang, discharging a rifle inflicting great bodily injury and personal use of an AR-15.

1. Must have had the AR in the standoff. The video of the shooting looks like a handgun.

He also looked pretty short. Wonder if we'll see a picture of this POS

2. He was also charged with shooting some others previously.

Maybe that was used then. Sounds like a stellar individual.

4. I remember there was mention by the LAPD that the video

was taken with a fisheye camera so anything in the image may have been distorted due to the extreme wide-angle camera effect (including the suspect and his height).

3. Do Police EVER Tell The Truth?

The media was all over the carjacking story, thinking there was a connection between that and the police shooting. This was due to the amount of police that were responding to the carjacking, and the media thought it was Way more than would normally take place for such a crime.

But the police said, Absolutely, Positively, NO CONNECTION between the two cases. And so the media, believing them, dropped it, and told the viewers, there was no connection.

The result is that the public thought that the shooter was still out there on the loose.

But the police couldn't care less about the public's concern for their safety. Let them worry a few weeks before we tell them the truth.

5. I pasted your thread to post in GD.

Not in the least surprised that it dropped like a stone.

Sometimes things are very predictable.

6. Nobody serious wants police to die

I also don't want police departments that violates people's civil rights. The FBI under Obama did more civil rights investigations than the Trump administration who has done fewer of those type of investigations than the Bush administration.

Trump himself has repeatedly called for police to treat people rougher on top of it all.
