Steep drop in unemployment rate spawns conspiracy

CHRISTOPHER S. RUGABER and SCOTT MAYEROWITZ
Published: 24 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) - Sasquatch might as well have traipsed across the White House lawn Friday with a lost Warren Commission file on his way to the studio where NASA staged the moon landing.

Conspiracy theorists came out in force after the government reported a sudden drop in the U.S. unemployment rate one month before Election Day. Their message: The Obama administration would do anything to ensure a November victory, including manipulating unemployment data.

The conspiracy was widely rejected. Officials at the Labor Department said the jobs figures are calculated by highly trained government employees without any political interference. Democrats and even some Republicans said they also found the charges implausible.

Yet that didn't stop the chatter. The allegations were a measure of how politicized the monthly unemployment report has become near the end of a campaign that has focused on the economy and jobs.

Fapping furiously over a specious theory will ensure that there's no time left for more potentially damaging mischief.

where i live jobs are slowly improving for the last year or so. one industry is moving into a closed factory. they will be bringing their many of their employees and are hiring 50 more locally. there has been a fairly steady demand for technical maintenance and front office tech personal. 26 miles down the road there`s been several industries hiring and several new factories.

it`s a hell of a lot better than it was under bush

hilarious that 0.3% has turned into a steep drop!

A steep drop in unemployment is what everyone will remember.

The Right Wing nutters are out in force today... The jobs report may throw them over the top.

Really, if their hopes are that fragile... It's time for them to concede.

Cons wanted to take the white house, get these reports on jobs numbers
after they won, and raise the chalice and say we did what Obama Couldn't.

...there was a guy in front of me who purchased a liter of soda and asked for $60 back by using his debit card.

There was a tv playing over the cashier's head; As the customer was punching in his PIN, the news began highlighting the drop in unemployment; the newscaster asked the question "would it turn the tables back in Obama's favor." (which is kinda ridiculous anyway).

The guy buying soda got noticeably frazzled hearing as the news went on, as he waiting for the debit to be approved. After the cashier handed him his receipt the guy grabbed his soda and stormed out the door—the cashier had to yell at him that he forgot his $60.

It's still so nice to be on the winning side, after those horrendous 8 years of Bush.
