BERLIN — Protesters against coronavirus restrictions have gathered in Berlin for a demonstration titled “The end of the pandemic — freedom day.” It comes amid increasing concern about an upturn in infections in Germany.

A crowd of people whistling and cheering — and with few masks in sight — marched from the Brandenburg Gate on Saturday ahead of a rally on a wide boulevard that runs through the city’s Tiergarten park.

Protesters held up homemade placards featuring slogans that included “Corona, false alarm,” “We are being forced to wear a muzzle” and “Natural defense instead of vaccination.” Some chanted “We’re here and we’re loud, because we are being robbed of our freedom.”

Demonstrations against restrictions this year have drawn a variety of people, including some conspiracy theorists and right-wing populists. People came from various parts of Germany for Saturday’s protest.

1. I just learned via FB one of my FB friends is there...

We have been in a musicians group together for years and we often trade pics and stories from our travels. Never a hint he was an idiot until today. I try and keep music politic free but this really put a bug up my ass.

3. Fortunately its a mild upturn, although no upturn is good

Looking at daily new cases (7 day moving average checkbox checked) in particular. About 1/8 of the April peak.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/germany/

Daily deaths about 4/day compared to 238/day at the April peak.

Hmm, both currently about the same as for Minnesota, but Germany's population is about 14 times larger than Minnesota's.

4. I can't help but think Russia-influenced social media is driving this

We know they have been doing this in the US, abetted by the Republicans, and they influenced Brexit and other elections in Europe through social media. Note the usual demos of CP theorists and right-wingers. How else to explain so many people protesting against their own interests?

He's a very busy man with ambitions.

12. The idiocy is worldwide...

If only the virus would be restricted to these morons, it might raise the average human I.Q. But, of course, it won't be.

15. A friend of mine just posted this about scientists and idiots:

Scientists build a bridge, invite people to cross it, offer to take the first steps to show it's stable.

when they get across they turn around expecting people to walk across and be happy that Scientists have made their lives better.

instead, the people set fire to the bridge, yell insane obscenities, and try walking on water instead, and blame the scientists when people are burned or drowned.

13. Well, it's kind of a relief to know that not all the covidiots are Americans.

But, it doesn't bode well for the species. It looks like a prelude to the Idiocracy.
