According to Jessie Cohen of WHAS11, at least two attendees at a planned protest in Louisville were shot and taken to the hospital as rival armed militias faced off and police stood by.
As Cohen tweeted, We just watched two people be taken onto stretchers at Baxter square on 12th and Jefferson. Metro safe has confirmed reports of shootings & that there are multiple victims. We heard the noises when people scattered to get behind cars, & to take a knee.
According to a report at the Daily Beast, the protest against police brutality resulted in a stand-off between the Not F**king Around Coalitionan all-Black armed militia founded by Atlanta-based rapper and DJ John Jay Johnson, and members of the conservative Three Percenter militia group.
An updated report from MSNBC claimed that the shooting was accidental and three members of the NFAC were wounded.

From what I am reading, so far, it appears the shooting today was an accidental shooting. Truthfully, going to a protest while armed ought to be illegal.

(6,045 posts)If I'm not mistaken the actual % was north of 15%!!(I think)
...Like many racist organizations trying to hide behind BS ideas that they're simply "Patriotic Groups" proudly & BRAVELY defending the Constitution & homeland these knuckleheads, the so-called 3%ers just happen to form in reaction to America electing the 1st African American POTUS.
...What a coincidence!!!

(5,896 posts)I believe their name is a reference to their oft-cited claim that, during the American Revolution, only about 3% of the population actually took up arms against British rule. They figure that, although they may be few in number, they can have a similarly great influence on the course of events.
'Course, that's what all terrorist organizations figure. And sometimes, alarmingly enough, it proves to be true.

(38,359 posts)LOUISVILLE, Ky. Shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday, three people were struck by gunfire when someones gun discharged while participating in the NFAC demonstration at Baxter Park.
The group was gathered in the park preparing to march downtown to 6th and Jefferson. Two individuals were wheeled off on stretchers by medics, another had her arm treated and another appeared to have his hand treated.
All three victims went to the University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Louisville Metro Police Chief Robert Schroeder later confirmed in a news release.
"All involved are members of the NFAC and there are no outstanding suspects," Schroeder said. "This is a tragic situation that could have been much worse. I encourage anyone choosing to exercise their Second Amendment rights to do so responsibly."

(38,359 posts)also..."beyond fucking stupid"...How many times has that happened?
or something similar.....like ...."Friendly fire?"...your words not mine.....
Guns, guns, and more guns.....& more guns.........
....I honestly believe that if we could talk to Washington, & Jefferson and told them about what horror the
2nd Amendment has given us in modern times,,,,the two of them, plus Franklin, would do everything
possible to remove it forever and forever..They were some of the smartest people around and
in no way could see this stupidity in the distant future..
...It was meant because we didn't have an army, and we needed
to have weapons so we could defend this country from outside forces...That is it, and that is all...
Yes, Jefferson, Washington and Franklin would have figured out something. Each one of them was smarter than all the Republicans in Congress. That you can take to the bank.

I'm thinking it will need to be sometime after we stop executing Black Americans without due process.
After voting rights are restored, and all Americans can vote without waiting in long lines.
After gerrymandering is abolished.
Need I go on?
PS, gun control is great, but lets remove the "Arms" from the biggest "gang" in america, the police.

(14,483 posts)Sources tell WLKY that a firearm accidentally discharged, wounding individuals who were nearby. Reports indicate that one person was shot in the chest, another in the leg and one had a graze wound on the arm.
Demonstrators remained peaceful as paramedics tended to the wounded.

There was no "face-off" between groups, as it remained peaceful. We hope it stays that way.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Members of the Georgia-based Black militia NFAC, which stands for "Not F**king Around Coalition came to demand justice for Breonna Taylor who was shot and killed on March 13.
Dressed in all black and carrying assault rifles, the militia marched from Baxter Park in the Russell neighborhood to Metro Hall, where leader Grandmaster Jay gave his speech and demands.
Prior to the march three members of the group was injured at the park when a gun accidentally fired. Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) confirmed the shooting as accidental but also warned that it could have been worse.
During his speech in front of Metro Hall, the group spokesperson Grandmaster Jay warned the Attorney General to get to a decision in the Breonna Taylor case. Members of the group met with Attorney General Daniel Cameron earlier this week. Saturday's march was part two of their process, the group confirms.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. LMPD has confirmed that at least three people were injured in a accidental shooting at Baxter Park in the 300 block of 12th St.
According to LMPD, three victims were sent to the hospital as a result of a discharge from a member of the NFAC demonstration.
All of the members of involved are affiliated with the NFAC and there no outstanding suspects, police say.
In a statement, LMPD interim chief Robert Schroeder said, "This is a tragic situation that could have been much worse. I encourage anyone choosing to exercise their Second Amendment rights to do so responsibly."
The Russell neighborhood park is where members of the NFAC militia gathered ahead of their Justice for Breonna Taylor protest march into downtown.

(14,483 posts)I always go to local news sources directly, which for here in Louisville is WAVE, WLKY, WHAS and WDRB.
Far too many times, sources like Raw Story sensationalize their headlines or simply don't read enough to get the full context of each story, and this is a good example.
IMO, headlines like that one are just fodder for the right-wing to use on social media against peaceful protests.
Still, I feel it's a very bad idea for protesters to be carrying guns regardless of their political leanings. Observing guns is an instant turn-off for many members of the public who are potential supporters of a protest.

(34,120 posts)I hate seeing Raw Story articles cited here, same as tweets. Why not follow the links from each and get closer to the original sources?
I do a lot of genealogical research and try to drill down to original sources for all my information. I'm thrilled when I find a scan of the original indenture from 1685 for one of my ancestors. Many are satisfied by a listing in a compilation that only tells me the first listing of that individual being in New Jersey in 1685 with no indication of how they know he was in NJ or what documentation there is for that claim.
Same for political sources - the closer I can get to an original source - interviews, video, etc. - the happier I am.

(7,968 posts)The fuel is in place. This situation forms the kindling. All that is needed now is the lighted match.
Both sides brought the gasoline in jerry cans.
One side hurt itself, though. People were really eager to jump to an entirely wrong conclusion based on early, preliminary information and group affiliation.
That, too, is gasoline, but a tanker truck with a spray hose. I'd rather be around the NFAC folk.
