California governor orders closure of bars and indoor dining at restaurants

Source: CNN

California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered Monday all counties in the state to close indoor activities at restaurants, bars, wineries, tasting rooms, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, zoos and museums.
The statewide order is effective today, Newsom said at a news conference. These sectors will need to move activities outdoors if possible.
Here's a list of closures that affect all counties:
Dine-in restaurants
Bars, brewpubs, breweries, and pubs ordered to close indoor and outdoor operations statewide
Wineries and tasting rooms
Movie theaters and family entertainment centers
Zoos and museums
Cardrooms

3. Additionally...

“Additionally, 30 counties currently on California’s monitoring list must close fitness centers, places of worship, offices for non-critical sectors, personal care services, hair salons and barbershops, and indoor malls, according to Newsom's order.

The 30 counties represent about 80% of the state’s population.”

We should have been doing that anyway.

would happen. California was doing so well, and we blew it. Sigh.

12. Yes. I couldn't understand it, esp being

ambiguous about whether one could sing in church even! Wondered if Newsom was pandering for federal dollars. Couldn't figure it out, still can't.

He's facing such a deficit that I understand being in a tough spot but ... lives first!

19. Everybody knew we were opening too early.

Newsom caved into the idiots protesting to open the beaches and their "freedumbs were being taken away". Small businesses and young people were all over the state pressuring the local govt to reopen so they could get a haircut, a suntan and drunk with friends.

Meanwhile those of us who stayed indoors were screwed by these self absorbed, stupid and irresponsible assholes. I just love, love love sacrificing and being responsible while others don't appreciate what those who stayed inside have been going through since March. It is all about THEM and their BS "freedumbs to party, dude".

You can't let up on some people, they can't handle "freedumbs". These are the morons that NEED regulations in their lives since they are too stupid to behave as a responsible member in a society and are a danger to others if they are allowed to do whatever they please (more guns, etc.). Thanks a lot, assholes! They brought MORE closures and financial problems onto everyone in the state. STUPID and SELFISH!!!!!

26. Yet another co-worker story of mine

A couple of weeks ago this fool was bellowing at the top of his lungs about how "it was 'bout damn time" Newsom let everything open up, that he hoped California would never recover, that he didn't live here anyway, yip yip yap, bip bip blap blop bloop.

He's not nearly so chatty lately, as least not around me. I told him to his face that he was a fucking fool back then.

AND YET ABOUT THIRTY PERCENT OF MY CO-WORKERS STILL WON'T WEAR A MASK. Management finally "clarified" policy to emphasize that masks are required in every area; previous emphasis was solely on public and passenger-accessible areas of the airport. Fools were (are) taking their masks off once past security, like they thought (think) TSA stops the 'rona at the checkpoints.

They know enforcement remains lax. They think they can't get the virus because...I dunno, they drink so much alcohol? Rub a Bible on their heads every morning? Are "special" exceptions, like mommy told them?

This county has remained surprisingly "clean" throughout the pandemic. They're doing their level damnedest to change that. I suppose when a few more of us die (there have been a couple) they MIGHT begin to wake the fuck up. Then we can start all over again.

27. It is those "bad apples"

who make the whole country rot. No wonder we are in this neck deep and the majority of the world has zero respect for us.

I blame a lot of this attitude on the Murdoch BS all over the media for the last 20 years. It will not be un-done in my lifetime...too much stupidity ingrained in too many Americans at this point. Social media has accelerated the BS.

9. Looks like the county on Stateline is NOT on the Nevada shut down list *eyeroll*

It should be since it neighbors us here (South Tahoe is ElDorado County, but our cases here are way more)

Douglas Co is the one next door at stateline...

We are inundated with tourists, I don't know how they are gonna enforce shutting anything down again

They brought more financial problems onto everyone in the state due to their selfishness and stupidity. Now we ALL have to suffer even longer due to them and their "freedumbs" to party.

6. I had been going back to the local coffee house for iced tea when on walks

They were very good about letting one customer in at a time, masks, etc. Then they started letting people sit inside and everyone in there was wearing the latest accessory: the dangling off-one-ear masks. So I stoped going inside, and I really miss their tea. Maybe now they'll go back to one customer at a time. They have plenty of outdoor seating.

having Covid-19 and also a local Assisted Living facility that now has several cases. I could tell things were starting to get bad by numbers we were seeing on the daily Cover-19 reports. So glad that Governor Newson did this.

13. Frustrating lack of clarity in communication

Placer country was just closed down again. There are 11 deaths total, we were at 9 for months (all from nursing homes). The 2 additional deaths were a few weeks ago I believe.

I am not trying to diminish the severity of this but WHAT is the criteria behind closures??? Simply more cases? (As would be expected with more testing). Or because we’re seeing a lot more deaths and hospital admissions? I would assume the latter but it is frustratingly vague.

Small businesses are being absolutely destroyed. The least the Governor can do is be much clearer about why he is shutting counties down again, particularly counties that aren’t seeing a spike in deaths.

17. Clarity always helps, but I didn't see the announcement. I know that the rapidly increasing numbers

are likely from infections two weeks ago...so assume that many, many more people are now infected. Some will get tested and reported but seems that a lot more covid infections won't be tested or reported.

IMHO no official wants to shut down but they are probably getting a lot scarier numbers than we are...this balancing act that officials seem to want to do sometimes leaves out information.

I'm for more govt help to keep our cherished small businesses afloat.

21. I get this is a tough call

But it annoys me that some of the politicians seem out of touch with the real travesty and anguish people are going through having their livelihoods destroyed. Cuomo seems to be more in tune about the damage to people’s livelihoods and he makes sure to mention that in his briefings. He just seems more compassionate whereas many come off as dispassionate.

And, god forbid, you mention the financial impact because often you’ll get the “well, loss of life is worse!”, like people who are losing everything are somehow being selfish for wanting to talk about that. BOTH are devastating—deaths and loss of everything you worked for.

Finally, YES, we need to support these small businesses and people who work in industries that are shutting down. The government isn’t doing nearly enough. Hand out a lifeline the same time your pulling the plug.

14. Inhaled form of Remdesivir can't come soon enough

Last edited Mon Jul 13, 2020, 07:32 PM - Edit history (1)

Clinical trials of inhaled Remdesivir started July 8th. If this can be given early on or post-exposure, it could be pivotal in controlling the spread.

22. Looking good from anecdotal evidence

I work in healthcare and the “word on the street” is doctors are seeing immediate improvements in patients once they are started on Remdesivir. I’m surprised actually since the first clinical trials involved only sickest patients, usually by then antivirals can’t do much. If Remdesivir can have that much of an impact on patients who have a ton of virus in them, it just seems to follow that Remdesivir would stop people from getting sick at all if given earlier.

I hope...

24. Yea, that would be nice.

Right not people who are not ready for hospitalization are just sent home, where some of them eventually die. If people who don't qualify for hospital are prescribed an inhaler with remdesivir, that would be great.

25. Couple of days ago, I went to Target...

....went to grab a box of Rainier Cherries. Some idiot blocked the entire isle with his cart and was checking various oranges....so I move all the way around to the far side and grab my box....then look up....he had taken his mask off. Despite there being a requirement to wear one.

And of course, seeing the idiots flagrantly violating the rules at the beaches, lakes, etc.

No wonder we are moving back to lockdown....and they only have themselves to blame....but they won't, they'll bitch and moan about Newsome.
