Graham says he will call Mueller to testify before Senate panel about Russia probe

Source: The Hill

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said on Sunday that he will agree to a Democratic request to have former special counsel Robert Mueller testify about his investigation into Russian election meddling and the Trump campaign.

"Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have previously requested Mr. Mueller appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee to testify about his investigation," Graham said in a statement.

"That request will be granted," he added.

The statement from Graham, which was also posted to Twitter, comes after Mueller published a Washington Post op-ed defending his team's findings on President Trump's associate Roger Stone after Trump moved to commute Stone's sentence.

Could be interesting. I feel Lindsey will be there defending Trump with as much fervor as he defended "Beer bong Brett' Kavanaugh.

15. Mueller doesn't work for the government any more, so he can talk.

He still can't disclose classified information but he's not under Barr's thumb.

4. Rs Will Be More Focused On Who Initiated The Investigation

not what they found. Their whole argument is that it was a fishing expedition in the first place and that's what they'll try and get from this charade.

5. Mueller's testimony could be different this time

...since the Supreme Court ruled that there is no such thing as Absolute Immunity. Show us what you got, Mr Mueller.

9. I don't know. I get the feeling from that guy, that

he thinks he's above it all. That telling the truth would somehow be "partisan". Hopefully that self righteousness will fade once he's spent a few months in the "Fred Trump Casino and Re-education Camp For Uber Patriots".

11. Mueller certainly hasn't given the world much reason to trust him.

So the question is, does he redeem himself... or Trump

14. Also, he seemed somewhat frail, and not an effective communicator.

We had sort of this myth about him, that maybe was reflective of an earlier stage in his life, but he certainly didn't turn out to be the right person for this moment. (Which may be the reason Rosenstein picked him.)

18. Yeah, although I won't fault him for his faculties being seemingly off. I was never on that whole

"Muller Time", etc. bandwagon. Not because I knew better necessarily. But I remembered "Fitzmas" and these other disappointments from before. So I held off comments, for the most part. Until it was time to see his findings.

Also, that whole exoneration of Dumbas Junior. Which basically amounted to "He's too damn stupid to know he's committing a crime...". Was nauseating. It made me wonder if these prosecutors would've had held the same "considerations", for someone who looks like me and has no family connections.

17. Never trusted Mueller. He follows Saint Ronnie's 11th commandment.

And he always looked desperately frightened all the time like a deer in headlights. I'm sure they had and still have some Kompromat on him from his past somewhere.

But maybe, just maybe, after seeing how the Never Trumpers are stepping up their game, with orgs like The Lincoln Project doing hard hitting ads, chipping away at Trump's approval ratings, he may be regaining some of that courage he vaguely remembers he had during his wartime service.

16. That's what I'm thinking.

He probably can't step too far away from Trump (he did an abrupt 180 after that golf game a couple of years ago, so who knows what Trump's got on him) but he will pretend to be fair in order to try to save his Senate seat.

10. I'm thinking this will be the republican's attempt to find a reason to distance themselves

from trump. They can act like they didn't already know what Muller's report says, and they're "oh! so surprised!" that donald trump was guilty of all of this!

It might be the republican senators trying to save themselves from the coming tsunami.

12. Until proven otherwise I smell a Lindsey rat. We will see.

There are many ways a committee chair can effectively muzzle or otherwise discredit a witness. Hopefully Mueller will not allow that to happen. Remember, this was in the context of Mueller writing an op ed in the Washington Post. So Lindsey might be looking to discredit Mueller. That would be the most logical explanation, imo. I do not trust Senator Graham. He has shown himself to be untrustworthy.

I think disappointment is on the table. Not much new will be learned. It's way past time for investigations.

I have lost faith in him. He needs to tell America that BARR SHUT HIM DOWN.

23. I was thinking that he was exhibiting cognitive decline.

But I am not a doctor and I did NOT stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I had high hopes for Mueller, but at the very beginning he limited his own investigation to NOT look at financials, which is really where all the bodies (that Americans can understand) are buried. Then, after his report was thrown in the garbage can by Barr, who stated publicly that Mueller COULD HAVE FILED INDICTMENTS if he thought it was warranted, all he could muster was a Susan Collins like "strongly worded letter" of disagreement with Barr.

When he FINALLY did go before Congress he seemed to lack confidence, was unsure of himself, and as others stated had that "deer in the headlights" look. It seemed so unlike someone who was the epitome of professionalism.

I think Graham is going to shred him. People will see it for what it is, but Mueller will be decimated.

29. He had declined

But was it really cognitive? I think he was being very careful. He's not an elected official who needs to play the crowd. However, he did seem much quicker after he ate lunch!

During the investigation I watched his old speeches and he is very different. An example:

26. Suddenly there are a bunch of posts about not trusting Mueller

Seem to be trying to help tRump deny the legitimacy of the investigation and to blame Mueller that Barr suppressed and lied about the findings. Unlike anyone in the administration, Mueller has acted with integrity and explained why he made the decisions that he did. Would you have preferred a Starr type of circus investigation or one that resulted in convictions of a number of slimeballs? I'd rather hear factual information from Mueller than accept anything Barr has to say.

28. +1

He did not play well on television with the small minded. Too subtle, not sensationalist. And he seemed very tired--how could he not be? He said what he needed to say in the closing questions from Adam Schiff, but it actually required listening to hear them.

Thinking about this led me to reread his 2011 speech. https://archives.fbi.gov/archives/news/speeches/the-evolving-organized-crime-threat

I am glad that other members of his team are also speaking up on Stone.
