Treasury Secretary Mnuchin says the Trump administration supports a 2nd round of stimulus checks, ad

Source: Business Insider

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Thursday that the Trump administration supports another round of stimulus payments.

"We do support another round of economic impact payments," Mnuchin said during a CNBC interview, referring to another name for the stimulus checks. "We can get that into hard-working Americans' bank accounts very, very quickly. The level and the criteria, we'll be discussing with the Senate."

The remarks from Mnuchin represent a shift in the administration's position on a second round of direct payments. Last month, Mnuchin said the White House would "seriously look" at the prospect of additional government checks for Americans.

And earlier this week, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows signaled the White House could get on board with more stimulus checks.

The article also said Mitch hinted at a $40,000 a year cutoff, which differs from the first found of checks with caps on those making over $75,000 a year.

9. you still haven't figured Republican out:

The *announcement* of how much they're sending out in total, will go out with much fanfare, a week before the election.

The actual checks will go out a week *after* the election, quietly, so people complain too late, that 90% of the money is going to rich people.

5. Wonder what the 40k a year cut off means.

Are they seriously saying anyone making more than that won't get the payment.

They can't be serious about that. That's shooting themselves in the foot if they think that will get them a lot of votes.

28. With the first round, a single person got the full $1200 if his/her AGI was $75,000 or less

and got a partial amount if the AGI was between $75,000 and $99,000 (the amount phases out in a linear way, declining by $50 for each $1,000 of additional AGI).

For a married couple, all the above numbers were doubled.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell floated a $40,000 income cap on Monday to limit eligibility to people he said were among the hardest-hit

I can't tell you from this whether this time around it will be a hard cap: Have an AGI of $40,000 and get the full amount, Have an AGI of $40,001 and get absolutely nothing, no checko for you, sorry.

Or if there will be some phase out like get the full amount at $40,000 AGI or less, and then phase out linearly to $50,000 or $60,000 or whatever.

Might as well be generous, Mitch, it's an election year you stupid fool, and it's just one payment, not a lifetime of monthly payments, so it gets lots of headlines but doesn't amount to much.

30. It would be stupid for there to be an absolute 40k and no more cut off.

And Moscow Mitch is up for re-election. That could lose him votes.

31. Maybe he's talking a low figure to lower expectations, but then agree to a much larger

number, and then people will think he is Magnaminous Mitch.

I forgot he is up for election this year.

19. The last cap was $98k for individuals and i think $150k for married couples

capping at $40k/yr cuts out a LOT of skilled workers who cannot go back to work due to furloughed status or utter lack of job openings in their field

the single person got a partial amount (the amount phased out by $50 for each addtional $1000 of AGI) until it is $0 at $99,000 AGI.

All above numbers are double for married couples.

It sounds as if that's the part they really want to shut down. Even if it takes another one time check to do it.

24. Extending the federal unemployment payment will accomplish far more than one time payments...

The additional UI benefits are what’s keeping millions afloat on their bills month to month.

A one time benefit will cover the mortgage/rent with little to spare for additional monthly debt obligations.

25. They don't want to do any of it, they do it just because of the elections

They don't want it to appear to be for food. That's too close to SNAP or food stamps.

They don't really want it to go exclusively to low income people. They might need it and it seems like welfare to them.

They don't want to pay people's rent and mortgages, too much like socialism.

So they try to limit it to feed capitalism. That's a Grand Plan to them.

Seriously .... suspend rent and mortgage payments month by month. $400 a head for food and living expenses.

People making more not-working with $600 extra plus unemployment doesn't sit well with me.
