A Massachusetts man was charged with assault after punching an elderly restaurant owner in a dispute over face masks.
Angel Gomez got into an argument with employees at Georges Pizza in Provincetown while out with family members Saturday night, and 81-year-old owner George Kraniotakis came from behind the counter and got in the younger mans face, reported the Cape Cod Times.
They werent wearing their masks when we asked them to, said Francine Kraniotakis, the owners daughter. My dad comes around and asks them to sit down and put on their masks. The guy said something like, We dont want to.
She said her father told the 27-year-old Gomez to pull up his mask from below his chin or leave, and the younger man struck him.............................

(8,052 posts)I want to go berserk too. It's like a "fuck you, I'll bow to pressure and get a mask but I refuse to wear it properly, so I'm still breathing virus on you" taunt.

(3,522 posts)I wear glasses too. Every time I am required to wear a mask my glasses fog completely up. The only way I can fix the problem is to wear it under my nose and breathe through my mouth. Havent found a solution; I just dont go out much.

(44,972 posts)One of the tips:
"Use your glasses to seal the top of your mask
If you can pull your mask up higher on your nose, you can use your glasses to seal it and shape it to your face. Just place your glasses right on top of the material thats over your nose and make sure they dont slide off. A secure fit will keep the warm air from escaping through the top of the mask."

(45,380 posts)It works well enough. There are also masks designed for glasses wearers that seal the top more securely than others.

(64,845 posts)It REALLY helps hold the mask from slipping, and I don't notice any fogging.

(11,637 posts)I pull the mask up to the bridge of my nose. The frame is large enough to press the top of the mask against my face so the glasses dont fog. Im using cloth masks I made myself. I dont think this method would work with store bought surgical masks.

(44,972 posts)Wearing it under your nose is pretty much useless. If your glasses fog up from your mask, your air is escaping from the mask. You need a mask that has a nose wire so you can make sure it's very close to your face, not allowing air to escape the mask.

(23,061 posts)Got this recommendation from my Optometrist who also wears glasses. My husbands' work supplies surgical masks for their use and to take home so he keeps us supplied with these and with gloves and now that I know this trick, wearing a mask with glasses is easier. I also read about this in an article that recommended using paper towels (best) or tissues for extra safety and comfort. Haven't tried the paper towels.
I am actually really stoked that I'm getting rid of glasses after wearing them for over 60 years every second I was awake. I had bad german measles at 5 with 105 degree fever and it ruined my eyes which didn't grow right after that, so have been nearly legally blind all this time. However, I now have cataracts so for an extra fee, got 1 eye fixed so it has 20/20 vision and will have the other one fixed tomorrow and will have 20/20 in both eyes and see clearly for the first time in forever. My cataracts were so bad that I see better with one good eye and one still bad then I did with glasses to correct vision in both eyes. I really can't even imagine what it will be like to see clearly all the way around with no assistance, I'm so used to blurry sides.

(14,852 posts)Whenever I wore those types of masks, sealing the top with hypoallergenic medical tape completely stopped the fogging.
The tape needs to be long enough to seal the top of the mask across the width of the glasses.
A band-aid might work too, but could look pretty dorky.
Edit: And it helps to create a better seal on the face, which is obviously wise!
