Whitmer lifts stay-home order, allows dine-in restaurant service

Source: Detroit News

The decision by Whitmer would allow dine-in service with capacity restrictions by June 8.

It also would allow for the opening of swimming pools, day camps for children, and outdoor gatherings of up to 100 people. County authorities had declared Metro Detroit's swimming pools closed for the summer.

Sports practices and games would be allowed so long as individuals on the field and in the stands can maintain six-foot distances, according to the Associated Press.

Casinos, salons and gyms will remain closed. This hurts Detroit, which relies on the three casinos there for a significant chunk of its revenues.

Michigan is moving forward with reopening. Initially only a handful of county's had some restrictions lifted before Memorial Day.

12. They weren't entirely closed

In some regions with few cases, restaurants and shops were already reopened. Retail by appointment was already open for the whole state. But the stay home order was still in effect overall until June 12 and she had a phased regional reopening plan that was very detailed. Apparently she just scrapped it all. I'm flabbergasted, frankly.

2. Are numbers dropping in Michigan to warrant this? ...

I haven't been following Michigan, but this comes as a surprise to me.

8. I don't know the exact numbers

But I do know that my family and friends who work in the metro Detroit area hospitals have all said the number of cases in their respective hospitals are quite low now.

7. Honestly, with the ongoing protests, there are going to be COVID spikes regardless

I hope the hospitals do not get overwhelmed again.

9. As a small business owner in Michigan, I am not happy about this

It is not time yet. I am not ready to let people in my store. We are just now starting curbside pickup. I would rather go out of business than let customers in. We are nonessential retail. It is not worth the risk. She had this great -sounding phased regional reopening plan. Why is she not following it? Wth?

If I sound like I am freaking out, that's because I am. Thank goodness my customers are loyal, they're ordering online, they will be respectful about curbside, and hopefully not too many of them will question our choice to wait longer before letting them in and shop elsewhere. So grateful my hubby feels the same way. So do several other mom and pops we know in our community.

Yes, it may kill my business, but I'd rather that than kill people, or risk my own life. Fuuuuuuuck.

13. I'm staying put.

The Gov opened up my area Up North a couple weeks ago. We had an invasion of unmasked downstaters. That is scary.

With my health I'd never survive Covid-19, so I'm staying put unless I have to go out, and when I do, I'll grab my hand sanitizer and mask.

Already we're seeing people foregoing safe practices. Just look at the protesters out there without masks, or wearing their masks poorly, and touching their faces - many of whom are nearby someone else who is shouting, spittle and all! I hope we don't see a big surge in sick people.

Even some of my friends have become lax. During these months, I've gotten together with a couple of friends for card games because we trusted that each of us were safely practicing safe behavior. Well, one has become lax, and I had to tell her no more visits. Unfortunately, it just takes one little itty bitty slip up and ka-pow, hello, Covid-19!

This is all very trying.
