New York Mayor Bill de Blasio defends police after video shows NYPD SUV driving into protesters

Source: NBC News

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio defended the New York City Police Department after a pair of the force's SUVs drove into a crowd during Saturday's protest against George Floyd's death.

De Blasio reacted after videos were posted to social media, which showed protestors moving a yellow barrier in front a police vehicle in Brooklyn. Protestors threw traffic cones and other items at the SUV as a second vehicle arrived and slowly drove through the crowd forming around it.

The first vehicle then drove into the barricade at a higher speed, sending people sprawling. Multiple city officials told NBC News there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

"It is inappropriate for protestors to surround a police vehicle and threaten police officers," he said. "That's wrong on its face and that hasn't happened in the history of protests in this city."

out of the way unless your goal is to get a video
to post on social media. If you are in your car you pull over for an emergency vehicle. I don't think pedestrians can block an emergency vehicle.

It's probably a good idea not to throw burning shit onto the roof of a cop car hours after people were arrested for throwing molotov cocktails at cop cars.

And they aren't 'protesters'. They're instigators and assholes who hurt the cause of those protesting injustice.

The police cars were not surrounded and the cops were in no danger. They just drove into people. I totally disagree with Deblasio.

DeBlasio's PR talk will backfire on him in the next election. He'd better be more judicious in his statements about policing and protesting.

Bloomberg changed it back to two terms only, after he changed the law to three so he could run for a third term.

Are people pushing tables, or what, into the front of the cop car to keep it from going forward? Still wrong, but I'm guessing the second car was trying not to get caught in such a manner.
