Georgia senator bought stock in personal protective equipment maker amid coronavirus crisis: report

Source: The Hill

Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) purchased stock in a company that produces personal protective equipment as the coronavirus crisis heated up.

Perdue reported 10 different stock purchases in the company DuPont de Nemours between Jan. 24 and March 2. The investments amounted to $185,000, according to the newspaper. Jan. 24 was the date of a Senate members-only coronavirus briefing (but a spokesperson said Perdue did not attend).

The senatorís financial portfolio activity jumped almost threefold last month when compared to monthly reports between January 2018 through February 2020, which recorded an average of 38 transactions.

His financial disclosure form showed 112 transactions, including 76 purchases amounting to $1.8 million and 34 sales amounting to $825,000.

18. He's counting on getting away with everything. Blame Trump.

Note that the Republican-supporting MSM ARE heavily covering Trump and ignoring congress's role in the creation of the 2020 Republican pandemic. The corporations that own almost all can afford, even need, to lose Trump, but not the Republican majorities that serve them.

3. Seems like a stretch

First... PPE isn't that large a portion of what the company produces.

But at least as importantly - it's hard to accuse him of profiting from inside knowledge when the stock is down substantially for every one of the ten purchases mentioned.

5. This! Thank you, CurtEastPoint.

Georgia has produced some of the worst politicians in the country. Alas, several of them are friends of my family, so I can't say much out loud, but I can certainly criticize them on DU!

11. Like so much else with the GOP, this goes right to intent.

The fact that he may have lost money is not relevant. He tried to profit off of the misery and misfortune of others.

Now, that is classic GOP.

12. Still seems like quite a stretch

The report indicates that he's been trading stock in this company for years... but this time we should infer an intent to profit from the virus - specifically by ignoring the fact that the markets were likely to tumble (other senators have received criticism for selling stocks just prior) and instead investing in a company that has a fraction of it's income coming from almost entirely non medical PPE? (very little of which can even be repurposed to use for the virus)?
