Trump campaign sends letter to Sessions demanding he stop invoking Trump

Source: CNN

President Donald Trump's campaign has sent a letter to Jeff Sessions demanding the former attorney general stop using Trump's name in his campaign materials for his US Senate bid.

"We only assume your campaign is doing this to confuse President Trump's loyal supporters in Alabama into believing the President supports your candidacy in the upcoming primary run-off election. Nothing could be further from the truth," wrote Michael Glassner, chief operating officer of the Trump campaign, to Sessions in the letter obtained by CNN and first reported by The New York Times.

Trump has long held a grudge against his former attorney general, whose recusal from the Russia investigation in early 2017 led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Last month, Trump endorsed Tommy Tuberville, Sessions' rival in the GOP primary runoff for Alabama's US Senate seat. Tuberville and Sessions are both vying to take on Democratic Sen. Doug Jones in the fall, and Republicans view the race as one of their most promising pickup opportunities in the Senate. That runoff had been scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed until July due to the coronavirus outbreak.

use Trump's name on anything. It would be a good name for a Porta John maybe.

Hey while you're at it, don't you have some incriminating evidence to share with the rest of us?

20. If Sessions wins the primary, any chance Trump endorses Doug Jones?

Trump hates Sessions, and this might actually help Jones.

22. Sessions was the FIRST Senator to endorse trump

Sessions jumped with glee to have such a fellow-hearted conservative/racist to become the Republican nominee.

The notion that Jeffy-boy has principles or values is ludicrous. Calculating, mischievous, but made a miscalculation. Alabama is not noted for its knowledge of arithmetic.

21. The nomination could be decided by football culture. Tide fans may not vote for Tuberville.

Republican politics in Alabama these days is all about who loves Trump the most. Tuberville has taken it to the extreme for a reason. Itís the only thing that might convince some Alabama fans to vote for a former Auburn football coach.

Tubervilleís big Trump-worship gambit has presented the state of Alabama with a fascinating cultural exercise in loyalty and tribalism. Can a football coach whose biggest professional accomplishment was beating the Thanksgiving giblet gravy out of the Crimson Tide year after year actually get elected in an Alabama state-wide election?

23. The Rolling Stones sent a message to Trump

demanding that he stop playing "You Can't Always Get What You Want" at his rallies. Of course, it was ignored. No fan of Sessions here, but he might want to consider using this song as a campaign theme -- just to get a rise out of Trump, who identifies with it but has no rights to the song. At the same time, GOP voters might be even more confused, believing that Sessions was one of the "loyal supporters".
