Voter ID proposal draws crowd of opponents on final day of legislative hearings

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Martha Stoddard

LINCOLN — The latest proposal to require voter identification in Nebraska drew a crowd of opponents to the last day of legislative hearings.

But State Sen. Andrew La Grone of Gretna, the chief sponsor of Legislative Resolution 292CA, was undaunted. He said he introduced the proposal because he wants to ensure that voter ID remains part of the conversation about election integrity and public confidence in elections.

“Voter ID is the issue I hear most from my constituents,” he said. “They view it as a commonsense approach to securing our elections against any other form of interference.”

Opponents, however, said the proposal targets a problem that does not exist and it would effectively keep some people from voting, particularly minority, low- income, elderly and disabled people who are more likely than others to lack government-issued photo IDs.

Making people jump through hoops with having to have boatloads of Documents in hand to get IDs. Birth Certificates, Marriage Locenses, Divorce Papers, Home title papers, Social Security Card applications, etc. All these documents cost money to get notarized copies of.

That would really make sure there is public confidence in elections.

Why not personally invite some over, Mr. Senator?

already has Russian oversight controllers in their party. What we need is a large voter registration drive, ensuring EVERY eligible voter has identification plus a way to reach the voting booth.

The 15th Amendment guarantees that the right to vote cannot be denied based on 'race, color, or previous condition of servitude.' One can logically conclude that the requirement to produce a photo ID is not required by the US Constitution and is a denial or abridgment of the right to vote.

The 19th Amendment finally gave women the right to vote. Conservatives on the Court are fond of using the originalist argument when it suites their political preferences, yet they are often willing to let states abridge rights, especially for minorities, when it comes to voting rights and abortion.

Conning people who have heard of issues with foreign interference by trying to make them think voter ID would help.
