Bernie Sanders wins Nevada Democratic caucuses

LAS VEGAS Bernie Sanders has won the the Nevada Democratic caucuses, NBC News projects.

Sanders, coming off a strong showing in the Iowa caucuses and a narrow victory in the New Hampshire primary, rode a wave of support from young voters, liberal voters and Latinos to a runaway first-place finish in Saturday's contest. It remains to early to call second and third-place finishers.

Sanders' win here in the third contest in the 2020 Democratic primary shows that the Vermont senator can compete strongly among a more diverse electorate: participants in Saturday's contest are much more racially diverse than voters in any presidential contest so far this year, according to results from the NBC News entrance poll.

A big win here gives Sanders momentum heading into next Saturday's primary in South Carolina, where polls show him running a close second to former Vice President Joe Biden. Sanders, looking to lock up a commanding delegate lead in his quest for the nomination, has also been devoting more time in California, the state that offers the largest delegate prize on Super Tuesday, March 3. Before caucus doors closed in Nevada Saturday, he was in Texas, the second-biggest Super Tuesday state.

2. Let me just remind everyone that Bernie won ALL THE CAUCUSES in the 2016 race too!

I:m not outing him down. It does look like he's beginning a runaway race, but I think we need to wait until Super Tuesday to see just how wide spread this is.

3. Biden's SC firewall may be the last chance to stop Bernie

He needs a blowout win there. A close win would only give Sanders momentum. But a blowout win in SC could cause moderate support to rally around him on Super Tuesday.

6. There is no way he can win the presidency when the majority of democrats can't stand him.

Democrats, the party of self-destruction.

I don't like Bernie for a number of reasons, but that is a separate issue. This is the only thing that matters: He is not a democrat, he is divisive, and he has never shown any interest in unifying anyone. If Bernie does end up with the nomination, November 3rd will be so awful that I don't think I will be able to bring myself to watch the election returns. I can pray that I am wrong, but I don't think I am.
