Supreme Court allow public charge rule to take effect across country

Source: The Hill

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump administration in a case that contested the president’s “public charge” rule, which critics have called a “wealth test” for legal immigrants.

The policy in question, the Immigration and Nationality Act, makes immigrants who are “likely at any time to become a public charge” ineligible for greencards. The policy virtually bars legal immigrants in the process of obtaining permanent legal status or citizenship from using public assistance, including Medicaid, housing vouchers and food stamps.

The case heard by the Court, Wolf v. Cook County, sought to reject the policy’s effect in Illinois. The district court filed a preliminary injunction, which temporarily stalled the policy in the state and sent the case to the Supreme Court. On Friday, the five conservative justices ruled in favor of the stay, while the liberal justices opposed it.

The Supreme Court had previously voted 5-4 in January to lift a nationwide injunction imposed by a federal judge in New York while the case plays out in appeals court. Last week Solicitor General Noel Francisco sent a request asking the court to do the same for an injunction imposed by an Illinois district court.

1. I think Canada and Australia does this.

Now we need to see what they do. This is an emergency.

2. This is how the destruction of our nation is cemented, in 5-4 RW SCOTUS decisions.

Every heinous, illegal and unconstitutional thing drumpf does is upheld by these destruction menaces to the constitution and our way of life. People think Roberts will save us, but I don't. All his actions point to him being a total RW stooge, he just likes to write little puff pieces pretending to care about the constitution, when it's a total fake.

3. It will be 6 to 3 if Trump gets in and the notorious RBG passes

I believe Donnie would purposely insult RBGs memory and try to appoint Judge Jeanine Pirro from Fox noise to take her place.

4. One of our best campaign issues is that it could easily be 7-2

Breyer will be 82 this year and there's no guarantee that either of them will make it four more years... plus Thomas might retire next term if he's happy with who will replace him.

Though there's little chance of a Pirro nomination. She's 68. Trump is looking for people 20 years younger.

6. This is why we need to get out the vote, and in huge numbers...

...imagine if RBG passes on tomorrow. We will have a RW Supreme Court for the foreseeable future.

7. My family would not be here if that was in place after wwIi

My father was a Holocaust survivor who came here penniless and with no family. These monsters make my blood boil. They have no idea of what this country meant to persecuted people seeking safety and peace.
I loathe them with every fiber of my being .
