President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the federal government may step in to take control of San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The president made the remarks at a White House event in Bakersfield, California. During the event, Trump responded to someone who said he wanted to get rid of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Get rid of Pelosi! Thats okay with me! Trump exclaimed. Lot of people agree. Look whats happened to San Francisco. So sad whats happened, when you see a slum, where its a slum. Its worse than a slum. Theres no slum like that.
Its something that were going to do something about, he added. Because if they dont fix it up, clean it up, take care of the homeless, do what they have to do but clean up their city, the federal government is going to have to step in. And were going to do it in Los Angeles and San Francisco..............................................

20,000+ of us made it downtown to the plaza for the festivities. On a weekday.
We're pretty good at mobilizing.

Our government here must call upon we the California people to support them in their stand. If we let Agent Orange and his Clowns of the Apocalypse bully us now, it will only get worse.

(1,148 posts)...and Trump supporters bitch about urban crime and how afraid they are to go into the city...and when you see where they live, some of those places are real dumps - far from the city and the downtowns are boarded up, there are meth dealers and addicts all over the place...no real stores but WalMart and dollar stores.
Then they complain about how expensive the city is and how they can only afford to live in the boonies. They could be living in complete shitholes, but they're not dumps as long as they're overwhelmingly white.

(50,552 posts)It's not the land prices or all the negative things Republicans say about the place. It's that San Francisco is built on the side of a cliff.
This is why I'm thinking Seattle - it has most of the appeal of SFO, but it's a little flatter.

(16,886 posts)From Highway I5 after winding through and below hills and exiting to downtown, you go down towards the waterfront. When headed over to the Space Needle and up the hills (including near Queen Anne and where there have been hill slides taking homes in past) you have Magnolia neighborhood where you wind up along a hill drive and have spectacular views of the cascade mountain range on one of the few clear days.
Then when you head East to Madison Park and head up and over the hills, you will even be reminded of San Francisco.
By the way - San Francisco is not built on the side of a Cliff....

And California's economy is doing very well, and they want to claim some credit, so Trump coming in "to save the day" is an attempt to save face.

(4,033 posts)A Führer city, or Führerstadt in German, was a status given to five German cities in 1937 by Adolf Hitler, the dictator of Nazi Germany.[1] The status was based on Hitler's vision of undertaking gigantic urban transformation projects in these cities based on his own conceptions as executed by German architects including Albert Speer, Paul Ludwig Troost, German Bestelmeyer, Konstanty Gutschow, Hermann Giesler, Leonhard Gall and Paul Otto August Baumgarten. More modest reconstruction projects were to take place in thirty-five other cities, although some sources assert this number was as high as fifty.[1] These plans were however not realised for the greater part because of the onset of the Second World War, although construction continued to take place even in wartime circumstances at Hitler's insistence.[2]

Even Trump knows damn well there is no constitutional way he or anybody else in the federal government can step in and take over a city government.
Wuddles440
(1,121 posts)but I have to respectfully disagree with you regarding the ability of the Constitution to restrain him. The erosion of the rule of law, already on life support, has dramatically accelerated over the past year. Il Douche and his henchmen have exposed dramatic weaknesses in our systems of government especially those regarding the separation of powers and the application of justice. He believes that he can now operate with total impunity because he has, with McTurtle's assistance, gained almost absolute control of the federal justice system. They have a plan in place for eliminating any and all opposition and are executing it.

Residents and those in authority should be embarrassed. It was once a great city, I can't believe residents aren't more motivated. Seattle is slightly better, but the future is bleak. I fear San Diegoa will soon head this week.

Raise your hand if you believe that Trump won't be trying his best to find and exploit new scapegoats, i.e., groups of people who are vulnerable, weak, and easily exploited.
We are getting classic dictator action here. Racism is the f word here, but we are going there under the Dirigible of Doom and Orange Emperor of Deplorables.
