Trump suggests Blagojevich was framed by Comey: 'He did not sell the Senate seat!'

Source: raw story

Published 14 mins ago on February 19, 2020

President Donald Trump on Wednesday insinuated that disgraced former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was set up by former FBI Director James Comey.

“Rod Blagojevich did not sell the Senate seat,” the president wrote on Twitter. “He served 8 years in prison, with many remaining. He paid a big price. Another Comey and gang deal!”

While Trump is technically correct that Blagojevich did not succeed in selling a Senate seat to the highest bidder, he neglects to mention that it’s only because the former Illinois governor was caught in the act of doing so...............................

They always leave his extortion of a children's hospital out of the mix, and neglect to mention that the horsetrading charges were actually dismissed on appeal. Only the really grimy and obvious crimes apply.

A crime stops being a crime if you get caught trying to do it and stopped. If a cop catches you trying to burn down your ex girlfriend’s house, you can just put the matches down and walk away. No harm, no foul.

Blago was too corrupt for Illinois, and that is saying something. We EXPECT a certain amount of corruption in this state. But Blago was too much even for us. But that turn at celebrity Apprentice seems to have done the trick, Trump comes to the rescue! Of course, springing Blago is just a warmup for the Stone pardon. Trump knows no bottom.

being so inconsiderate as to win the presidency thus giving Blago a juicy senate seat to fill. Blago wouldn't have put the seat up for sale if Obama hadn't left it empty.

Once again, Obama's fault.

do I need this? for the humor impaired.

Those five convictions were overturned by the 7th circuit court of appeals. The court said what Blago did could be considered "normal logrolling" that politicians engage in. I agree with the court.

Blago offered to name Jarrett senator if he got a cabinet post. The appeals court overturned those counts, but not the counts related to the cash for senate seat counts involving Jesse Jackson Jr.

From the appeals court decision: We "vacate the convictions on counts that concern Blagojevich’s proposal to appoint Valerie Jarrett to the Senate in exchange for an appointment to the Cabinet." The appeals court went on to state: "The evidence that Blagojevich sought money in exchange for appointing Valerie Jarrett to the Senate is sufficient to convict, so there is no double jeopardy obstacle to retrial."

Blago was arrested in 2008. The phone call took place in 2008. So exactly how was this Comey's case? Oh, and this was a case brought by the US Attorney's office in Chicago. When he was a US Attorney, Comey served in New York.

Trump's insane. But we knew that.

selling obama's senate seat. He was convicted of charges that were likely a result of his attempt to deal the senate seat away as well as other actions. There is a whole wikipedia page on the topic of his corruption charges. Here's a slice of it and the link:

As well as the allegations concerning the Senate seat, Blagojevich has also been charged with:

Attempting to extort the owners of the Tribune Company to fire Chicago Tribune editors who criticized the governor's handling of state affairs.

Abuse of power concerning release of US$8 million of state funds to Children's Memorial Hospital expecting to obtain a $50,000 campaign contribution.[8][11]

Seeking graft in the form of $2.5 million in campaign contributions (through 2008) from companies and individuals who have received state contracts or appointments.[22]
