LAX-Bound Aircraft Dumps Fuel On Elementary School, Minor Injuries Reported

Source: NPR

Emergency units treated 17 children and 9 adults after an LAX-bound aircraft apparently dumped fuel on an elementary school playground, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

All 26 patients were "complaining of minor injuries," the department said in tweet.

None of the patients was taken to the hospital.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that Delta Air Lines Flight 89 declared an emergency after departing Los Angeles International Airport, returned to the airport and landed without incident.

The FAA said it is investigating the incident and that when fuel is dumped, it is supposed to be over "designated unpopulated areas."

2. Or perhaps they were aiming and missed.

There's a golf course not far from there, and the school's next to the inaptly named Los Angeles "river". Perhaps that pesky law of inertia kept the fuel moving instead of just falling straight down from where it was released.

3. Other reports suggest that the fuel dump

started over the water but continued over the city due to the plane not being over the ocean long enough to dump enough fuel for a safe landing.

5. Have a cousin that lived next to cropland..

Somewhere in california..There had been complaints from the residents about getting sprayed by crop dusters..And complaints had been met with threats by ag interests..They moved to colorado. Were that afraid about over spray.

6. Our local heath dept once dropped rabies vaccines on a soccer field

It was meant for raccoons but hit the middle schoolers . They were little cubes of vaccine permeated fish flavored food.
Needless to say although no one was hurt, and none of these kids ate any vaccines, the parents were not amused.
