Sen. Cory Booker suspends presidential campaign

Source: ABC

Sen. Cory Booker suspended his presidential campaign Monday, the final act of a bid for the Democratic nomination defined by a persistent struggle to catch fire with voters and donors despite his relatively high profile and long-standing presidential ambitions.

The news of the senatorís decision came weeks days before the Iowa caucuses, where, despite a large field organization Booker, D-N.J., was expected to finish outside of the top tier of candidates, based on recent polling. His announcement also comes on the eve of the seventh Democratic debate which he did not qualify to participate in due to a lack of qualifying polls towards Democratic National Committee polling thresholds, according to ABC Newsí analysis.

"Itís with a full heart that I share this news -- Iíve made the decision to suspend my campaign for president," Booker wrote supporters in an email, echoing the sentiment in a video. "It was a difficult decision to make, but I got in this race to win, and Iíve always said I wouldnít continue if there was no longer a path to victory."

5. That is a shame

I have been taking my son and his girlfriend to see various candidates in the last couple of weeks.

The girlfriend really liked him and was planning to caucus for him. We were all impressed by him.

6. This is very sad news...

How did the party of civil rights and standing up for minorities get to this point?

I truly worry that itís going to come down to two old white straight guys for the nomination.

Not exactly going to inspire the young/minority demographic

12. A lot of the young demographic is fired up for one of those old white dudes

Iím not a fan of his, but what can I say?

Booker obviously didnít fire enough of a young minority demographic up. Is that the partyís fault? These candidates need to look in the mirror.

17. I don't believe that number is nearly as high as you think it is

Heís not going to draw very many independents or borderline Rs our on Election Day

The Ďeverything for free because weíll tax the richí will quickly and the socialist label (accurate or not) will be hard to shake

I come to the conclusion that our nominee is not in the race yet ... not sure who it might be but Iím expecting someone to disrupt the race

20. This young minority is fired up for an old white lady

We're lucky that our frontrunners are excellent choices. Young minorities are not that influential in the primaries this year, which is unfortunate. Many older minorities are supporting who they believe would be a safe choice to defeat Trump over a risky choice who may better speak to their issues.

It was great to have Booker's voice in the debates because he brought up issues and perceptions that other candidates wouldn't know about because they have different backgrounds and experiences.

7. I know he wasn't polling well, but this still surprises me.

I figured any candidate that was still running at this point would at least stay in until Iowa and then drop out, with it only being a few weeks away.

11. I got a call from his campaign just a week ago?

I told them I was supporting someone else but I really do like him. I always have liked him. We have differences but I have not one doubt that he is sincere and would have done a fine job. He just is not my first choice during the primary.

Sorry to see him go.

21. Don't be sad. Look at it this way: he is opening up the possibility for him to be the VP to the

nominee if he/she is not a minority. Cory would be immensely valuable reaching out to minority communities all over the country and of course, after 8 years, in line for the presidency himself.

There is a real possibility that I am right here...
