Ann Romney to critics: "Stop it. This is hard"
Source: CBS News
(CBS News) Amid ongoing criticism over the management of her husband's presidential campaign, Ann Romney on Thursday responded to the critics in an interview on Radio Iowa: "Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring," she said.
"This is hard and, you know, it's an important thing that we're doing right now and it's an important election and it is time for all Americans to realize how significant this election is and how lucky we are to have someone with Mitt's qualifications and experience and know-how to be able to have the opportunity to run this country,"; Romney said.
Even as conservative detractors escalate their critiques of how Mitt Romney has operated his bid for the presidency -- conservative journalist Peggy Noonan on Thursday called it a rolling calamity"-- Ann Romney dismissed the negative appraisals.
"It's nonsense and the chattering class...you hear it and then you just let it go right by,"; she said. "Honestly, at this point, I'm not surprised by anything.";

The Romney campaign seems to be in a death spiral:
1. The right wing says that he is not winning because he is not being right wing crazy enough.
2. Romney reboots tacks even further to the right.
3. This causes him to alienate moderates and independents and his polling drops.
4. Go back to #1.

(1,201 posts)Ann, Ann, Ann. The American people are not the staff that you can bark at when we displease you. And by the way; Don't you EVER refer to me as "You people." I pay 28 % in taxes! That's a hell of a lot more than you. You're staring to make Leona Helmsley look decent.

Yes, you have MS and play that card shamelessly when it suits you. I and many of my friends have conditions as serious or worse and still have to worry about keeping a job and meeting the mortgage.
Go ahead Annie - shake your finger in MY face. Just try.

(1,727 posts)MS acting up. Wondered how the stress of it all could be good for her. May disagree with her politically/socially but have seen friends take on jobs that were too stressful and wondered if being so active in the campaign was a good idea for her. Just a thought. Money can buy good insurance but it cannot buy good health. He is the candidate not her. I'll cut her some slack even if she says some really stupid things.

(13,485 posts)MS has a way of recurring under stress and it is not reversible. She really should not be in this at all, and if Mr. Romney had any understanding within him, or respect for her condition, let alone some sort of compassion, he would not be running for president.
Unfortunately, there will probably be a day when she will find out what "hard" and "pain" really are. No money will be able to bring back what MS can take away.
I really don't understand this Romney guy, not from any perspective.

(28,940 posts)Maybe she's in stand by my man even if it kills me mode. Yes of course, she has every right to make that decision for herself. However, if active campaigning is stressing her out and stress can make MS worse, maybe her husband might consider that the WH isn't important enough to risk his wife's health. Yet another thing that doesn't make Mitt look good.

If someone breaks into my house threatening to harm my family for whatever reason, worrying about their physical or mental health is the friggin last thing on my mind.
I can't give that any slack.

Now get to work.
Reading your words, and hearing John Lennon's voice say them (your icon)...I just donated $50 to the Obama campaign.
Was going to anyway, but it's done, and like I did in 2008 I will probably give more.
...and I'm currently unemployedbut it was due to an ego maniacal CEO who proudly boasted a 50/50 vision (50% US /50% overseas), so there wasn't much guess work for me.

(11,085 posts)Romney made his campaign a "rolling calamity" because he can't handle the heavy lifting parts of politics--the thinking before you talk part, the calculating the implications of your policies part, pretty much any part that involves depth of thought.
