Two storms leave 50 million under winter alert as travelers return from Thanksgiving

Source: Omaha World Herald-CNN

By Christina Maxouris,

As Thanksgiving travelers return home Sunday, two powerful storms on each side of the country have left about 50 million under some kind of winter weather alert.

Airlines have delayed flights across the country on what is expected to be the busiest travel day in the US. American, Delta and other airlines issued travel waivers for those who want to cancel or change their plans.

A winter storm that has pounded the Upper Midwest with heavy snow is shifting over to the Northeast, where it will dump more snow mixed with freezing rain, the National Weather Service said.

Blizzard-like conditions will finish off the holiday weekend in the Great Lakes region, the weather service said, while up to 12 inches of snow may cover parts of the Dakotas to Michigan, it said.

1. Weather like that is probably just another day to those Minnesotans

Although they appear to be standing in a blizzard that would kill Florida Man, those two are probably just pissed because the waves and severe flooding are slowing down the freeze-up process so that they can't yet drive their pickups towing ice fishing shacks out onto the lakes.

2. Just like the summer we are getting hit weekly by storms, no let up, yards never had a chance to

dry out, now snow & ice, trees coming down easy, lots of power outages, I bet the power companies will be singing a different tune about climate change soon.

3. I read that people in snowy, cold northern areas live longer

as they have to keep mentally and physically sharp to adapt to the changing, adverse weather conditions.

6. Hype Hype Hype ... this is winter weather & we've had it for decades, centuries

However, unlike previous decades we now have "weather channels" hyping and running around like their hair is on fire every GD time it rains, snows, or blows ... pearl clutching dweebs just out to make a buck and frighten uneducated children.

8. It's unusual in the respect.....

that all of our snow is coming in big storms this year. Usually we get an inch or two of snow, then a break for a few days, but this year all of our snow has been coming in 12-16 inch storms. We're well above the season's average, and it's not even winter yet. Maybe you don't find that odd, but when you're shoveling this shit it makes a big difference.
