Mike Espy announces run for U.S. Senate

Source: WAPT-TV

JACKSON, Miss. —
Democrat Mike Espy announced Tuesday that he will make another run for U.S. Senate.

Espy said he’s energized and ready to take on U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith again after losing his bid to unseat her in last year’s special election.

Republican Gov. Phil Bryant appointed Hyde-Smith to the Senate in early 2018 when Republican Thad Cochran retired. In the November 2018 election to finish the term, Hyde-Smith won 54% to Espy's 46%.

Days later, Espy created a committee to run in 2020. He made it official Tuesday with the release of an announcement video.

1. Hmm he only got 46% so is there a realistic chance for him or is there someone else that might

stand a better chance in the state?

3. Do you relaize how big of a deal that a black democrat got 46% of the vote in MissiFugginssippi?!

and Hyde-Smith did as poorly as she did because of her pro-lynching remarks? Mississippians got out the vote on Espy's account. More can be done, and I for one, am extremely heartened to see that Espy is not in the least daunted.

6. I am simply wondering if he has a realistic chance and only that and if not who else might be

a better option to win the seat and that is all I am wondering.

7. Very but it is still a red state so I will not get my hopes up as its to soon to tell.

That's not to say all hope is lost and it would be futile to try though as a well run campaign with broad support could do it given enough time and resources to build a base.

9. If we can damage Trump enough for his supporters to stay home

it could happen if combined with high turnout from our side. Since 2020 is a presidential election year, we could inspire higher turnout.
