Arrested and convicted of crimes, but still on the force

Source: Fresno Bee

More than 80 law enforcement officers working today in California are convicted criminals, with rap sheets that include everything from animal cruelty to manslaughter.

They drove drunk, cheated on timecards, brutalized family members, even killed others with their recklessness on the road. But thanks to some of the weakest laws in the country for punishing police misconduct, the Golden State does nothing to stop these officers from enforcing the law.

2. THat episode was aired today...

could be a rerun but I heard it today for the first time. It's a mess and I think we need a major national reform of policing in this country.

5. Same here

though I am aware that these things happen, it is good that someone is making it more public. I like that program and listen to it when I'm home when it airs in my area.

Sometimes a tiny role ends being more than anticipated. Good for you in playing a role in the investigation.

6. The police state has been building for decades. Many are vets that needed jobs; trained to kill.

And they have almost blanket immunity and support from superiors. An officer I met said, "after a while you either just fill the uniform, or you administer street justice." Long gone are the days when most cops would at least talk before tasing or shooting. Not a good trajectory for us.

7. This is why I don't buy into the whole "good cop" meme

Much of this corruption would not exist if so-called ‘good cops’ pulled the shade on this.

They’re guilty by way of silence...

13. Have a good friend who is a liberal officer. Almost the only one on the force; can't say much.

8. There's a Youtuber named John Masters who focuses on police misconduct

Some of the things he shows gets your blood boiling. A case in point was yesterday when he showed the video of the guy who got arrested on a BART (Bay Area) platform for eating a sandwich. Cops couldn't get their story straight. The original officer said he was there looking for a drunk woman and came on this man eating (which is against the law, apparently). The responding officer who actually took him into custody said he was being detained because he matched the description of a suspect they had been called in on. So a drunk woman suddenly became a black man.

Masters Report is the name of the channel if you're interested.

12. Thanks. Clearly at least one officer is lying. Glad someone is tracking all these and compiling.
