President Trump on Friday announced that he intends to appoint country musician Lee Greenwood to the Kennedy Center board.
Greenwood's most well-known song, "God Bless the U.S.A.," has become synonymous with Trump's rallies, with the tune playing whenever the president walks onstage. The song also occasionally plays at the outset of White House events.
Greenwood performed "God Bless the U.S.A." at one of Trump's rallies in Missouri last November ahead of the midterm elections.
The president previously tapped actor Jon Voight and and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), two ardent supporters of his, to serve on the Kennedy Center board. Other Trump appointees to the board include billionaire Kelcy Warren, the chairman of Energy Transfer Partners, author Karen LeFrak and resort executive Kelly Roberts.
First lady Melania Trump serves as an honorary chairwoman of the board of trustees.
The Trumps have yet to attend the annual Kennedy Center honors, which celebrates prominent entertainers and cultural contributors. The gala has honored prominent critics of the president each of the past two years.

(34,057 posts)I have had to play that song so many times I just want to add those minutes to the end of my life, I want them back.
A shitty song by a guy that I have not heard anything from since. I am sure he had some kind of career but not one I would ever have followed and never heard about. Once you show yourself with something like this I am no longer interested.
I guess it is par for the course, so to speak, that Trump would pick this guy. He is really not into good things, only things that will somehow make him look like what he is not but tries so hard to be seen as.
Failure after failure, another very poor but very obvious choice.

Melvin Lee Greenwood (born October 27, 1942) is an American country music artist. Active since 1962, he has released more than 20 major-label albums and has charted more than 35 singles on the Billboard country music charts.
Greenwood is known for his patriotic signature song "God Bless the U.S.A.", which was originally released and successful in 1984, and became popular again during the Gulf War in 1991 and after the September 11, 2001 attacks (becoming his highest charting pop hit, reaching number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100). He also has charted seven number-one hits in his career: "Somebody's Gonna Love You", "Going, Going, Gone", "Dixie Road", "I Don't Mind the Thorns (If You're the Rose)", "Don't Underestimate My Love For You", "Hearts Aren't Made to Break (They're Made to Love)", and "Mornin' Ride". His 1983 single "I.O.U." was also a top-five hit on the adult contemporary charts, and a number 53 on the Hot 100.

Presidential appointments to the KenCen Board of Trustees have long been used to reward campaign contributors and political supporters. No one pays that much attention. For example, does anyone here know George Bush's appointees to the Board included Bo Derek and Betsy Devos? Or that President Obama appointed Valerie Jarrett and Susan Rice?
