Gunman opens fire in Georgia Walmart before killing himself

Updated on: October 26, 2019 / 1:34 PM / CBS News

A man who fired shots inside a Walmart store in Georgia early Saturday has died after he turned the gun on himself, police said. A 19-year-old man walked into the store in Waycross and started shooting before being confronted by police.

"Officers located the shooter within seconds, at which time he turned the handgun on himself, and delivered a self-inflicted gunshot wound," the Waycross Police Department said.

Police said there were workers and customers in the store at the time, but they were all evacuated and no one was hurt. The man was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at around 3 a.m. Police identified him as 19-year-old John Jaylen Walker Kinnitt of Waycross.

Be glad it was a simple handgun and that this unfortunate human being did not exercise his "Constitutional Right" to arm himself with an automatic assault rifle.

All he would have needed to do was go to the store at a busy time and go to to check out lanes with lots of people standing in close proximity. I don't think any of the recent shooters had automatic rifles either. They had semi-automatic rifles, and it's likely this guy had a semi-automatic handgun too. I may be wrong, but I suspect only the shooter is dead because police were luckily very close by or the shooter didn't actually intend to kill others or changed his mind the moment it started.

Anyway, it's a good thing only the suspect died, but it's still sad that for whatever reason he decided to do this.
