Nasa unveils spacesuits to be worn by first woman on the moon

Nasa has unveiled two spacesuits designed to be worn by the first woman to walk on the moon.
The next-generation suits were made for the Artemis programme, which aims to land the first woman and next man on the moon by 2024.
The garment, known as the exploration extravehicular mobility unit (xEMU), is designed for exploring the lunar surface, specifically the south pole the target for Nasas next crewed lunar landing.
The focus on spacesuits designed to fit a more diverse crew comes after plans for the first all-female spacewalk had to be scrapped this year because there were not enough medium-size spacesuits.

(42,862 posts)It's a space suit... not an Olympic team's parade costume.
I do think the shoulder and leg joints are cool! Definitely better for movement than before... especially when pressurized, they'll be able to enjoy the freedom of having joints that bend.

(8,020 posts)and we still don't know how many safety net programs are going to be cut to put fascists on the moon as they decided they can't release cost estimates until 2020.

(1,568 posts)If so, hasn't this been in the works well before Pence and Trump took power? The fascist comment is kinda throwing me. So I am bit confused. Are you referring to NASA's missions and calling astronauts fascists, or are you referring to the Space Force silliness? Which, by the way, in its practical form doesn't appear to be turning into the nonsense Trump and his fan club seem to envision.
