Pay freeze at the UN? Trump administration owes the United Nations $1 billion

Source: USA Today

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump brushed aside warnings from the United Nations on Wednesday that the 74-year-old organization risks being unable to pay its staff and bills if member nations don't cough up their annual dues soon.

The biggest delinquent payer in the world? The United States.

Washington owes the U.N. $381 million in back payments and $674 million this year, according to the U.S. mission to the U.N. As the largest contributor to the 193-member organization, the U.S. has long sought to pressure the U.N. to rein in spending.

Trump, who has openly questioned the value of the U.N., has made skepticism of multinational organizations a central component of his foreign policy. Trump has demanded European countries contribute more to NATO and has pressed allies in Asia and the Middle East to rely less on U.S. military might and spend more on their own security.

... snip...

But the longstanding tension has received renewed attention because of Trump, who once described the U.N. as "not a friend of democracy" and has consistently questioned multinational efforts such as NATO and the annual G-7 and G-20 summits.

3. Here are the countries that HAVE paid

https://www.un.org/en/ga/contributions/honourroll.shtml

And this page, you can see the scale of assessments. U.S. is to pay 25% of all U.N. dues if I'm reading it right.

4. Gosh, we're deadbeats in the eyes of the rest of the world. Thanks Trump.

This is so Trumpian. If he wanted to complain about the amount of dues the US owed, he's had 10 months to at least bring up the subject. Instead, like he does in his personal life, he just doesn't pay his bill and says nothing. There are lots of countries on that list that paid quite substantial amounts, and they paid it way back at the beginning of the year. Japan's share was in the hundreds of millions just like ours, and they paid their share way back at the beginning of the year like a lot of other countries. Trump likes to show up at the summits and walk around with his chest poked out, while all the time, he's a deadbeat whose always looking for an excuse not to pay his debts. Hey if you think the amount is too high and you want to renegotiate the terms and amounts, then say so and work with the rest of the nations, to come up with a fair amount, but don't just be a little bitch and just not pay, but always want to be bragging about being at the head of the class, when you're in last place.

This is so typical of Trump.

5. I insist that the position of POTUS has too much power

And the fact that the person surrounds him/herself with powerful crooks (Barr, McConnell, and all the others working behind the scenes) shows that the POTUS leash must be shortened, and controlled. After we finally get rid of this monster and his minions Congress has to revise the powers of the presidency, the position was setup believing that no corrupt person like the creature would ever occupy the sit in the oval office, that US voters would not be as stupid as they have shown to be, that the opposing party would be strong enough to fight it and disallow any wrong doing, that the POTUS party would also be made up of real patriots who would never put party before country, that no US citizen would render his/her allegiance to a foreign power.

I don't think the founding fathers ever thought a crook like this would become president of this country, they trusted too much on the decency of anyone running for office.

At a minimum there must be hard requirements that must be met for anyone to run for president, knowing the history of the country would be a start, the creature would have flunked that one and we would not have this problem. Submitting his/her taxes to Congress must also be a requirement. No person ever indicted can run for office, any office. Anyone having personal businesses with other countries must also be disqualified, it will represent a conflict of interest, even if they disengage from their businesses completely.

I hate to say it, and I hope I am wrong, but I feel this impeachment thing is not going well.

6. Fat Donnie is bitching about being told to pay up front for his Minneapolis rally.

After the Trump campaign defaulted on the past 10 rallies (i.e., leaving the cities holding the bag for hundreds of thousands of dollars for extra security, etc.), the mayor of Minneapolis sent a bill which would need to be paid by the Trump campaign before the Thursday rally could be held in his city. In other words, the mayor is telling the Defaulter-in-Chief, "Pay your bills."

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

7. UN shouldn't hold its breath i guess

commitments mean nothing to drumpf. he doesn't even care what our own laws say, let alone some agreement with the UN. he won't pay and he'll make them sue for it like he does everything else.
