Turkish troops launch offensive into northern Syria, says Erdogan

Source: BBC

Turkish troops have begun an incursion into northern Syria, which could bring them into direct conflict with Kurdish-led forces allied to the United States.

Turkey says it is acting to create a "safe zone" cleared of Kurdish militia fighters it considers terrorists.

It also wants the zone to house some of Turkey's 3.6 million Syrian refugees.

Donald Trump controversially withdrew US troops ahead of the action but says Turkey may face economic consequences if it does anything "off limits".

1. Lindsay Graham has a sad.

Erdogan made his deal with Putin and his Trump-puppet. USA loses.

Apparently Safe Zone is the new word for holocaust. God save the Kurds.

14. Don't forget the tRump Tower in Istanbul

tRump has a massive conflict of interest there. It's hard to tell whether this is being done at the behest of Putin, or whether to further his personal financial interests, or both.

2. Has Trump given Erdogan private assurances he can go ahead with this?

The mixed messaging stinks. The threat of sanctions sounds hollow and meaningless. It's hard to decipher what's going on. But it looks simply awful. I'm bracing myself.

4. Does or doesn't

our rogue pResident understand what a flashpoint is?

If the Republicans are not going to get together and resolve to burn tRump, then their opinions, in a time of crisis are enabling him. This situation clearly transcends partisan politics.

9. Fuck this orange demented murderer for profit.

there is not one person in the world who is worse than him. Giving Turkey free reign to kill 10,000 Kurds and release 10,000 ISIS fighters to return to killing westerners or anyone who doesn't follow their demands is pure murder for profit. drumpfs twin towers in Turkey remain unscathed, and I bet you big $$ we never hear the words MBS and Khashoggi together again in the future. Plus Russia and Iran win, christian Kurds die and drumpf profits personally - there is no one worse and he is doing his best to totally destroy our country and is following PUtin's orders, word for word.

15. "I have a little conflict of interest 'cause I have a major, major building in Istanbul."

Walter Shaub Retweeted

“I have a little conflict of interest ’cause I have a major, major building in Istanbul. It’s a tremendously successful job. It’s called Trump Towers—two towers, instead of one, not the usual one; it’s two...They have a strong leader.” -Donald Trump, 2015

18. Rojava is a democratic progressive movement

Something Trump hates as much as Erdogan or Putin for that matter. THIS is where of all places, troops should leave their deployment. Not exactly profiles in courage times we live in. I wish the far-left wouldn't brown nose Trump on his peace nik "keeping his campaign promises" shit but I'm sure they will.

19. BLITZKREIG!!

We have been going full speed to NAZI since the orange traitor took office.

We have the dismantling of institutions, distancing our allies, having a propaganda outlet to spew your shit, torch rallies just like Hitler loved, along with a military parade. Deceit, collusion and treason. Now blitzkreig and our allies get slaughtered again due to America.

Can anyone say they didn't see this coming?

23. Turkey is broadcasting its version live here:

Eg:

https://www.trtworld.com/

... They argue that only a small minority of Kurds are PKK or YPG members, and that in the 30km deep border zone they are to occupy and secure Syrian Arabs are the great majority.

Some of the landscape under discussion is being filmed from the Turkish side of the border here:
