READ: White House letter to Pelosi rejecting cooperation in impeachment inquiry

Source: The Hill

The White House on Tuesday sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other top Democrats saying it would not cooperate with their impeachment inquiry into President Trump over his dealings with Ukraine.

Accusing Pelosi and her colleagues of "seeking to overturn the results of the 2016 election," White House counsel Pat Cipollone in his letter said Trump and members of his administration "cannot participate in your partisan and unconstitutional inquiry under these circumstances," but stopped short of calling for the House to hold a vote on impeachment.

Read the letter from Cipollone here.

MSNBC is discussing. I don't like The Hill but other sources have this jumbled in with their other running "summaries" of the happenings today.

3. just noise, an attempt to run the clock out but our House leader knows that & will continue going

after the orange turd. By the way, there is no constitution requirement for the house to vote on whether there should be an impeachment inquiry, its just tRump BS.

{edited to add:}

Kevin M. Kruse Retweeted

It’s hard to count the number of ways that this letter is, constitutionally and legally, garbage.

7. All the commentary on that letter so far this evening

has basically dubbed it "a non-legal document" and even Schmuck Toad called it 9 pages of "talking points".

6. Donald just fucked his entire party now because if they seek to hinder the investigation in

the House or Senate our guys can roast them over the coals during the next election.
Before this letter the Repugnants like Mitch could have maybe justified opposing the investigation and could have done so with a straight face but now he just said they themselves do not have the right to investigate actions by the President.

15. Compare and Contrast

Republicans: "WE WANT TO SUBJECT YOU TO AN INQUISITION"
Hillary Rodham Clinton: "Okay. Come at me."

Democrats: "We'd like to talk to you about Don--"
Republicans: "NO, NEVER, NEIN NEIN NEIN!!"

17. The Speaker's reply

Link: https://www.speaker.gov/newsroom/10819-0

“For a while, the President has tried to normalize lawlessness. Now, he is trying to make lawlessness a virtue. The American people have already heard the President’s own words – ‘do us a favor, though.’ The President’s actions threaten our national security, violate our Constitution and undermine the integrity of our elections. The White House letter is only the latest attempt to cover up his betrayal of our democracy, and to insist that the President is above the law.

“This letter is manifestly wrong, and is simply another unlawful attempt to hide the facts of the Trump Administration’s brazen efforts to pressure foreign powers to intervene in the 2020 elections. Despite the White House’s stonewalling, we see a growing body of evidence that shows that President Trump abused his office and violated his oath to ‘protect, preserve and defend the Constitution.’

“The White House should be warned that continued efforts to hide the truth of the President’s abuse of power from the American people will be regarded as further evidence of obstruction.

“Mr. President, you are not above the law. You will be held accountable.”
