Trump administration tells agencies to restrict unions in the workplace

Source: Washington Post

Federal agencies have been told to carry out Trump administration directives aimed at restricting the role of unions in the federal workplace and giving agencies the maximum discretion in taking disciplinary actions against employees, now that a court ban against many of those policies has been lifted.

The policies “are in full force and effect” and agencies should “ensure that they are fully compliant with all requirements or are taking steps to become compliant with requirements at the soonest feasible opportunity,” the central personnel agency said in a memo issued Friday.

The Office of Personnel Management’s memo came just several days after a court lifted a year-long injunction in an union-sponsored lawsuit against three executive orders issued in May 2018. Several months later, a federal district court agreed with the unions that major parts of the orders overstepped the president’s authority under civil service law. However, in July of this year a federal appeals court held, without ruling on that issue, that the dispute belongs instead before the Federal Labor Relations Authority, which decides on disputes between agencies and unions.

Most of the provisions at issue involve topics of importance in workplaces with union bargaining units, including to limit the topics on which bargaining will be held, set time limits on negotiations and significantly reduce “official time,” which is paid time employees may use for certain union-related purposes, and other accommodations to unions such as free use of office space. The unions still have the option of a further appeal to the Supreme Court but for the meantime the focus will shift to the bargaining table and then to the FLRA.

7. Sadly, the majority of members of the union I was once in and was a department steward

voted for the POS and I don't think he could ever do anything wrong in their eyes. They bought into the suicidal rightwing talk show talking points.

8. Oh how I know.

Remember Nixon pulling 75% and Reagan pulling about the same. And when our Company went to Bankruptcy Court,oh how the little Piggies squealed. As Shop Stu,it got damn nasty for those who figured out they lost their Vacation Pay,and they lost their first dollar Health and Eye Care, and once they found out the Company had not paid their quarterly payment into the Union Pension fund and that effected their eligibility when they became old enough to qualify for Pension Bennies, wow, just plain wow. Once the BK filing was moved to a BK receiver, and we got our hands on the first rulings dealing with Pay and Vacation Time pay outs,I made sure each and every member received a copy of the filing stating that under the new BK laws put in place by the Reagan White House, that there will not be any Current payrolls made and as far as Pension Rights, only 15 out of the 250 members had standing.

Yup,you guessed it,we had to get a unlisted phone number,it did get a bit intense for some time afterward. And I myself received 10 cents on a dollar for my wage claim and that was as a result of filing a lien against the Plant and Equipment. Ten years to the day they finally cut that check. BTW,understand this same crowd voted for Bush and Cheney.
