Schiff offers bill to make domestic terrorism a federal crime

Source: The Hill

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, introduced legislation Friday that would make domestic terrorism a federal crime.

The Confronting the Threat of Domestic Terrorism Act would create a federal criminal statute that would cover domestic acts of terror committed by those without links to foreign organizations.

Schiff said the legislation was sparked by the recent mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, as well as attacks at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh and the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C.

Authorities believe the El Paso suspect warned of a “Hispanic invasion” and he reportedly told police he was targeting "Mexicans."

MI-5 and MI-6 for example. I really don't know enough about how we handled domestic sabotage or who investigated it during WWII.

my point, which i now realize is implied, is post-war. MI5 and MI6 continue to this day, and I think MI5 was strengthened after the London subway bombings of a few years back even though they were already stronger than in the US. Freedom is getting in the way of the US protecting its domestic safety and Federal State.

We must have protected ourselves in the Cold War. We've caught spies. Perhaps we trailed off after the fall of the Berlin Wall? Too much faith in free markets and the invisible hand? We seemed paralyzed by domestic threats. Remember Waco. The Feds encountered major Republican push-back when trying to execute Federal warrants to protect children.

Oh, and that foreign-born Obama is coming for your guns. The Right has carved out a protective space for itself in opposition to oversight and really in some aspects, Federal law.

Republican people have been linked to being terrorist. Republicans would hate to have their voters sent to jail for being themselves in public. If republicans block this bill they will be known as TRAITORS for their unpatriotic actions, but this is nothing new for an elected republican.........
