Al Green to force impeachment vote following incendiary Trump tweets

Source: The Hill

BY JULIEGRACE BRUFKE - 07/15/19 01:15 PM EDT

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) said Monday that he plans to force a vote on impeachment this month in the wake of President Trump’s inflammatory tweets telling a group of progressive Democratic congresswomen to "go back" to where they came from.

Green — who unsuccessfully forced a vote on impeachment in 2017, with just 58 Democrats supporting the effort on the floor — said he feels he needs to take action due to the president’s recent rhetoric.

"I will again, this month, bring impeachment to a vote on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives for bigotry in policy, harmful to our society," he tweeted. #RacistPresident #ImpeachNow

In a press conference streamed on Facebook Live, the Texas Democrat said he plans to move forward before Congress breaks for its August recess, adding “to tolerate bigotry is to perpetuate bigotry, especially when you can do something about it.”

1. Bring it on. If GOP senators refuse to convict...

...hammer them relentlessly for their fecklessness and use their votes against them next year.

11. I would like to see Articles of Impeachment against

not only Trump but against many of the people he put in powerful positions. I would like to see the House vote to impeach them but not Trump. Kind of like the man who hates you says he is going to kill your whole family before he gets to you. Don't impeach Trump until the time is right which could be 16 months from now.

12. Only a racist would not vote to impeach Trump

Trump is demonstrably a racist and has to be impeached. Any Congressman not voting for impeachment is also a racist protecting Trump.

18. Under the Constitution, we can impeach for "High crimes and misdemeanors"

From Wiki: The charge of high crimes and misdemeanors covers allegations of misconduct by officials, such as perjury of oath, abuse of authority, bribery, intimidation, misuse of assets, failure to supervise, dereliction of duty, unbecoming conduct, refusal to obey a lawful order, chronic intoxication, and tax evasion.

Looks like he can be impeached for everything except his racism.
