Former Florida state attorney pushes back against Acosta account of Epstein case

A former Florida state's attorney in Palm Beach County pushed back on Wednesday against Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta's portrayal of events surrounding a favorable deal for financier Jeffrey Epstein more than a decade ago.

Barry Krischer, the Palm Beach County state's attorney at the time of the investigation, called Acosta's account, which alleged Krischer was prepared to let Epstein walk without serving jail time until Acosta's office stepped in, "completely wrong."

"Mr. Acosta's should not be allowed to rewrite history," Krischer said in a statement.

Acosta held a news conference earlier in the day in which he adamantly defended his work as U.S. attorney in brokering an agreement to ensure Epstein spent time in prison and was required to register as a sex offender.

Since Epstein was charged Monday with sex trafficking in New York City, Acosta has come under scrutiny for his role in negotiating that 2008 deal in Florida in which Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution under Florida law, registered as a sex offender and spent just over a year in prison while having work-release privileges.

1. 53 page indictment

Abandoned by Acosta. That man is such a liar. Stood with a straight face and lied for one hour. There is no way they did not have enough credible information.

They had been getting information forever on Epstein. Patterson’s book lays out the facts of the investigation. They even had a trash hauler collecting evidence.

4. I'm not a lawyer but I have seen them on TV

No seriously, I understand that they feared he'd beat the rap (he could afford really good lawyers and jury consultants) and that plea deals are more the standard these days up and down the criminal justice system but.... how hard could it be to sell a jury on "this rich a hole has been raping children"?

Granted one juror (properly selected) might have been able to hang the jury but still.

2. Barry Krischer should sue Acosta for defamation.

3. You could tell Acosta

Was lying. He blamed everyone but Acosta. Should have known someone would respond, but like Trump he has no shame.
