Federal Judge blocks DOJ attorneys from fleeing 2020 Census case after losing at the Supreme Court

Source: RawStory

On Monday, the DOJ attempted to bring in an entirely new slate of attorneys.

Judge Jesse Furman rejected almost all of the attempted move during an order released on Tuesday.

The judge said the motion by the DOJ was “patently deficient,” except in the case of two attorneys who were allowed to leave the case as they no longer work for the DOJ.

“Defendants provide no reason, let alone ‘satisfactory reasons’ for the substitution of counsel,” Furman wrote in his order.

"Your Honor, as you know, we recently took over this case. There are mounds of documents to review and analyze, videos to view, witnesses to speak with. We've been working around the clock, but we need more time to complete this review."

Not sayin' that was their thinking. Maybe the new attys are experts in scamming. But seeking a delay may have been one reason, and this Judge isn't going to bite.

Time is of the essence here. They need as much time as possible in order to print the addendum if they ever get a favorable ruling from the courts.

They need the change of lawyers because the new excuse for the citizenship question is going against the excuse they presented to the courts. The judge will ask, were you lying then, or now.

With new lawyers, they can see we looked at the problem in a different way and now present it to the court.

longer...eventually the govt is going to run out of competent lawyers (like rump did / does all of the time) to defend rump's childish temper outbursts when something goes against him in court, since they all are quitting/leaving.

Federal judge rejects Justice Department’s bid to swap out lawyers for census case on citizenship question

By Washington Post Staff
July 9 at 5:53 PM

The federal judge in New York on Tuesday wrote that the department’s request to withdraw the previous lawyers was “patently deficient.”

The department had earlier this week announced its intention to swap out the legal team on the case, without saying exactly why. A person familiar with the matter said the decision was driven in part by frustration among at least some of the career lawyers assigned to the case about how it was being handled.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

They're going to save our democracy. They can see through this idiocy and they don't play politics.
Our federal judges do not want the taint of Chump on them.

Thank a judge today. (IMHO Most state judges are also honorable.)

With prejudice means you cannot try to do it again. I was sued by my neighbor and the judge dismissed the case. I asked him to add with prejudice and he did so my neighbor could not sue me again.
