Russian air force plane lands in Venezuela: report

Source: Al Jazeera

A Russian air force plane has landed in Venezuela's main airport, according to a Reuters News Agency witness and a website that tracks plane movements.

An Ilyushin 62 jet with tail number RA-86496 was parked at Simon Bolivar International Airport of the capital Caracas on Monday, three months after a similar arrival prompted a war of words between the United States and Russia.

The tail number is registered to a Russian air force jet, according to website Flightradar24, and matches the tail number of the plane that arrived in March.

Two Russian air force planes landed in Venezuela in March carrying Russian defence officials and 100 troops, leading Washington to accuse Moscow of "reckless escalation" of the situation in the struggling South American nation.

1. We saw how the Cuban missile crisis

almost lead to war with the USSR and we had a cool head as president.

How will Trump handle a Venezuela missile crisis when he is beholding to Putin?

Yeah but it's too soon to impeach, maybe after Russia puts missiles in Venezuela?

2. Seems like a non-story, no?

I mean, a few planes and a couple hundred troops seems rather inconsequential, and not really outside the acceptable actions of sovereign nations.

3. Shows Russia is calling the shots there. After the US-back rebellion of a few weeks back...

failed it's back to business as usual there. Russia is bringing in troops, planes and who knows what else. Venezuela is a sovereign nation and its government did not yield to the US-back attempted coup, but the situation is certainly different in how previous admins have handled intrusions into the hemisphere (Monroe Doctrine) by foreign powers.

In other words, trump is on Putin's lease and is basically allowing it.
