Tories warn of government collapse if Boris Johnson pursues no-deal Brexit

Source: The Guardian

Conservatives stepped up warnings on Monday that a Boris Johnson premiership could lead to the collapse of the government if the leadership frontrunner attempts to pursue no deal.

One former Tory minister said he believed there were many more Tory MPs who would be prepared to take that step than those who would publicly admit it. “I do think at least 10 would vote to bring down the government if the government was taking us into no deal,” the MP said.

“Politicians don’t like to admit that they take this view in public, they like to hedge their bets a bit, but that has been my view for a long time.”

Tobias Ellwood, the defence minister, said he believed at least a dozen Conservative MPs could be forced into voting against the government.

Haven’t the Brits learned anything from the nightmare of our government? If they leave the EU, they will find that the notion that the British Empire still exists is a fantasy and they have very little negotiating power to form positive trade deals. The Eu will be in no mood to kowtow, while the US under Trump will see an opportunity to take advantage and force them to take our products that they don’t really want. Cancer-causing, Roundup-laced foods, anyone?

And then if Scotland and Northern Ireland opt out of the UK in favor of remaining in the EU, there will be very little left of the once mighty British Empire. I love the UK and hate to see what is happening there.

If trumpists like Boris, Farange have no deal it will be the end of the UK as we have known it. Very sad, they used to be a sane bunch of English speakers and sensibly democratic.

What can any Englishman think? Recover sovereignty, the Empire? But 90% of the trade is with Europe? Where else? Ireland, India, Australia, Canada (gasp). God save the Queen.

This is Putin/trump. So much conservative preserving/conserving values of mutual self-help.

Putin/trump wish to destroy the EU and all cooperative agreements. Sovereignty, eh? Traditional stuck-in-the mud to make England great again? Let's cheer the Welsh, Scots, DUP, and Isle of Wightists.

I think that is what "collapsing the government" means.
