GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter's wife changing plea in criminal case

Rep. Duncan Hunter’s wife, Margaret — facing a slew of federal criminal charges along with the California Republican lawmaker over allegations of diverting more than $250,000 in campaign funds to personal use — is set to plead guilty Thursday in federal court in San Diego.

The move is a serious blow to Hunter, a six-term congressman who was indicted last August along with his wife. Hunter, a former Marine and the son of a long-term GOP lawmaker, has maintained his innocence. Hunter refused to answer questions about his wife’s potential plea deal during House votes on Wednesday.

Hunter won reelection in November in the heavily Republican district despite the criminal charges, as did Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.), who is under indictment on charges of insider trading.

Federal prosecutors allege that over a seven-year period, from 2009 to 2016, the Hunters “illegally used campaign money to pay for personal expenses that they could not otherwise afford. The purchases included family vacations to Italy, Hawaii, Phoenix, Arizona, and Boise, Idaho; school tuition; dental work; theater tickets; and domestic and international travel for almost a dozen relatives.”

Thanks to marble falls for providing a working link for this story. I had originally put one in place which blew up, apparently.

Saved the article, no doubt about it.

2. Has she contacted Trump about a pardon?

All she needs to do is write Trump a love letter like Kim does. Or is this a state crime?

19. Yes, I remember that

Usually not a good idea to throw your wife under the bus. What was that quote about a woman scorned?

Also, not very "alpha" male-like to do it, either.

3. another corrupt conservative of a political party filled with nothing but corruption

even if trump pardons her, she must admit to the underlying guilt of the charges

and hence, her husband is guilty too and can be thrown out of congress

the election, just like other chivalrous republicans have done.

15. That both Hunter & Collins were re-elected tells me

everything I need to know about Republicans. Criminality doesn't make their GOP constituents blush or bat an eyelash. All that matters to them is no/low taxes and/or their corporate welfare.

17. Want more proof of fanatism?

"Hunter won reelection in November in the heavily Republican district despite the criminal charges, as did Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.), who is under indictment on charges of insider trading."

Repubs don't care about their country, if it quacks like a repub that is enough for them, they don't care if the person is a crook, if he has raped, if he has been in jail for fraud, and I guess they would turn the other way if the person had shot to death someone (it doesn't have to be 5th Ave in NY), as long as it quacks like a repub, they are good.

What a bunch of shameless people the republican party is. I don't think it has become, it has always been that way, their racism, misogyny, criminal beahviour has always been part of the republican party. When I hear "what they have become" I cringe, they have always been that way, all they have done is come out of the closet.

22. President Eisenhower is the last Repub...

...Preznit that was not a totally fucked up asshole of some sort, as far as I can tell.

Plus he had the whole "I led the forces that destroyed Hitler" thing going for him.

Ike was President when I was born, but I don't really remember anything about his Administration, but apparently even Repubs in general, in the 1950s, supported labor unions.

The first President I have memories of is JFK, that's why my punk rock band name is "Tim Konspiracy."

Nixon era Repukes at least, to their credit, told Nixon that he would be impeached/removed, which prompted his resignation.

Also, Nixon - He established the EPA and the Earned Income Credit, IIRC, so there's that.
