After three days of deliberations, the jury in the case of No More Deaths volunteer Scott Warren is deadlocked and unable to reach a decision on the three federal felony charges against him.

Warren faced one count of criminal conspiracy to transport and harbor illegal aliens, and two counts of harboring, stemming from his January 2018 arrest by U.S. Border Patrol in Ajo, Ariz.

The judge in the case declared a hung jury on Tuesday afternoon, a day after he pushed the panel to continue to review the case and attempt to reach a verdict. The jury of eight women and four men had deliberated since Friday following a seven-day trial.

As the judge dismissed the jury, some in the courtroom were confused by the developments Tuesday. There was no immediate reaction from Warren, and the gallery was quiet.

"I don't know what just happened. Is he free to go now?," his mother asked.

Dr. Scott Warren's statement outside the courthouse after a hung jury failed to convict him for his humanitarian aid efforts out of Ajo, Arizona. Scott was charged with two counts of harboring and one count of conspiracy to harbor for providing food, water, clothes, and beds to two undocumented men crossing the border. The jury was split with 8 jurors for acquittal and 4 jurors for conviction.

"Today it remains as necessary as ever for local residents and humanitarian aid volunteers to stand in solidarity with migrants and refugees. And we must also stand for our families, friends, and neighbors—and the very land itself—most threatened by the militarization of our borderland communities."

2. Only good if the prosecution decides not to re-try.

However, once in a while, a shitty prosecutor gets a Karma kick in the ass.

Google Central Park 5 prosecutor, Linda Fairstein

6. Just finished watching the Netflix series How They See Us

Wow, if she (Linda Fairstein) is half as awful as she's portrayed in that, she's still pretty awful. Now that she's lost her jobs, maybe she can find some work in the trumpft administration.

And of course, trumpft makes his appearance, he can't even call them "black people" to him they are just "a black."

9. When is someone going to be prosecuted for the deaths of immigrants????

Our country is SO fucked up right now, I'm absolutely sick. Mass shootings have become so common that we now ignore them, and if tRump has his way we'll forget about the lost children and dead children detained at the border.

11. This is one reason I support FIJA, the Fully Informed Juror Association.

Most jurors don't know, & judges don't tell them, they have the right to judge the merits of the law itself, its use in the case at hand, & the motives of the accused.

In other words, if jurors feel a law is bad/unjust, they have the legal right to disregard it.

I REALLY hope that defense attorneys explained this in court.

Not important news of national interest.

It could be re-posted in general Discussion if you like.
