(CNN)The remains of another person presumed dead from the September 11 attacks in New York have been identified, the New York City Medical Examiner said.

The medical examiner's office has been working over the years to identify remains of the 2,753 people reported missing in the terror attacks at the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan.

The man -- whose name was not released -- was No. 1,643 and the first since July 2018, the department said in a statement.

The ID was confirmed through DNA testing of remains recovered in 2013. Authorities still cannot account for some 1,110 victims, or 40% of those who died.

1. Will be intersting from where they got the matching DNA for the identification

Still, sense of relief for any relatives. And applause to the medical examiner.

7. Family members of people who were missing after Sept. 11, 2001

offered DNA samples for this purpose. I would presume that there's a database
of those samples that gets cross checked.

2. Those are startling statistics.

The article doesn't explain why so many remains are unidentified. Think of all the surviving relatives who are still waiting.

4. Human bodies are nothing more than piles of chunky meat against steel and concrete

Very important to remember that, we aren't invincible.

5. I think it's because no remains for the majority of them have been found.

A lot of the bodies were completely destroyed in the fire and subsequent collapse.
