Justice Dept. Agrees to Turn Over Key Mueller Evidence to House

Source: New York Times

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department, after weeks of tense negotiations, has agreed to provide Congress with key evidence collected by Robert S. Mueller III that could shed light on possible obstruction of justice and abuse of power by President Trump, the House Judiciary Committee said on Monday.

The exact scope of the material the Justice Department has agreed to provide was not immediately clear, though the committee signaled that it could be a breakthrough after weeks of wrangling over those materials and others that the Judiciary panel demanded under subpoena. The Trump administration’s blockade of the material had ground the Democratic investigations of Mr. Trump’s possible obstruction of justice and abuse of power to a halt.

The agreement appears to have been foreshadowed in an exchange of letters in recent weeks between the committee and the department. In a May 24 letter outlining a proposed compromise, Representative Jerrold Nadler of New York, the committee chairman, wrote that he was “prepared to prioritize production of materials that would provide the committee with the most insight into certain incidents when the special counsel found ‘substantial evidence’ of obstruction of justice.”

Those incidences include Mr. Trump’s attempts to fire Mr. Mueller, the special counsel; his request that Donald F. McGahn II, the former White House counsel, create “a fraudulent record denying that incident”; and Mr. Trump’s efforts to get former Attorney General Jeff Sessions to undo his recusal and curtail the scope of the special counsel inquiry.

I would hope someone at the DOJ makes a calculated "mistake" and sends EVERYTHING
over Congress..... AKA oopsy

3. All of it, or people like me

will be skeptical.

Barr can play games like this right up to the election. Who knows what Barr is releasing, whether it is genuine or not? Rosenstein turned out to be a rat.

Mueller needs to validate everything that Barr releases.

8. Agreed.

The "Justice" Department is currently under the control of a Trump stooge.

14. A stooge who probably won't go to prison to protect Trump

DJT’s biggest problem: if the investigations start to uncover real crimes, no one he’s relying on to save him is going to just go “no, throw me in prison instead.” Look at Hope Hicks.

13. No kidding. Why should any of us trust him/them to be truthful and forthcoming? Doing so

with what we already know wouldn't just be naive, it would be negligent. Skepticism is warranted. Stop negotiating with crooks. Just start the impeachment inquiry. It strengthens the House's hand. Nothing from Grand Jury proceedings could be legitimately held back once that is done.

4. alternative headline: House Judiciary Drops Threats to Hold Barr In Contempt.

What if this is just a delaying tactic by Barr? Got any teeth in this agreement?

10. It is a delaying tactic,

the real dirt on Trump is in the grand jury testimony and none of that is being released.

15. That should be the headline. When we go along with crooks' demands, they win. Pretty simple.

5. All the more reason for Mueller to testify to Congress.

I don’t trust Barr any further than I could throw him. I suspect he will feed Republican fellow travelers bogus info that will stoke the “Its all Hillary’s fault” narrative. Mueller needs to confirm or deny the scope and contents of any release from the President’s Attorney at the DOJ.

6. Yes, what kind of evidence?

Remember when Nixon tried to give the Watergate committee loose leaf notebooks with an edited version of what was on the tapes? He had a news conference and told us he was not a crook. I hope it is not that kind of evidence. I hope we don't fall for this.

16. Who determines what "Key Evidence" is?

I would suggest they demand ALL of the evidence, knowing these crooks, they intend to determine what "Key evidence" is.

17. "though the committee signaled that it could be a breakthrough after weeks..."

Excuse me but, a "breakthrough" would be ALL of the evidence, not what they want to pick and choose.

This is what infuriates me about the Democrats, they are given piecemeal and they are happy, its like the bully taking your lunch but he lets you take a byte, and the bullied is very happy.

Enough people! Time to be the one on top, time to be the one holding the baton, to be the one who controls the conversation.

19. Here is what your takeaway should be -

"The exact scope of the material the Justice Department has agreed to provide was not immediately clear"

Meaning the "media" has no clue but they have to write their copy and publish it anyway.

20. Barr is still withholding evidence. Not acceptable. He's a proven liar.

This is total bullshit.

He should be held in contempt.

We should be having impeachment investigation hearings so we can get the Mueller grand jury info.

We should not be at the mercy of Barr deciding what are "key" documents. We must get it ALL. Barr has already shown he is part of the coverup. Why are we taking his word on anything?
