(CNN)Former President Jimmy Carter may have spent three days in the hospital, but the 94 year-old is expected to teach Sunday school at his beloved Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, this weekend.

Carter was released from the hospital Thursday morning, the Carter Center announced, and will continue to recuperate at home. He was admitted Monday after a fall on his way to go turkey hunting, and later underwent a successful surgery at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

"He will undergo physical therapy, as part of his recovery from hip replacement surgery. President Carter plans to teach Sunday school at Maranatha Baptist Church this weekend," the Carter Center said in a statement.

In March, Carter became the oldest-living former president in US history. The former president fought cancer in his liver and brain, announcing his cancer was gone in 2015. He was hospitalized briefly in 2017 after becoming dehydrated while working on a Habitat for Humanity project in Canada, but has since been in overall good health.

1. I wish them both well ... they walk the walk.

BTW @ 94 and falling that needed surgery Jimmy might very well be at the end but
still he wanted to get out in order to teach Sunday School and to get back to building
homes on "Habitat for Humanity" projects.

4. That is fantastic news!

Somehow, I knew he would be back up on his feet pretty soon, but this is even faster than I expected.

What an amazing man. And what an amazing couple.

5. "As a person, he's the greatest president in history!" And that's how I like my presidents.

Great and caring real people.

Not fake business cons or scions of wealthy families.

14. The couple that is hospitalized together, stays together

well, they've already proven they can do that.

LOL about the turkey hunt. He has earned his hobbies, unlike the Dotard.

15. You're right. When my mother fell and broke a couple of ribs at the age of 87....

....(she was packing used clothing to give to the Fortune Society, an organization that helps recently released prisoners readjust to society, leaned over and toppled) she was hospitalized for a few days. My hospital allowed my father to sleep in the room with her each night.

16. When they've been together that long

that makes sense. And it seems that the survivor won't survive by long.

17. Great News

Jimmy Carter IMHO is the best man ever to be President. Not the best President but the most decent human being. He reminds me so much of my Paternal Grandfather, who my Sister and I idolized and spent a lot of time with.
