President Donald Trump orders crackdown on 'visa overstays' in latest push against illegal immigrati

Source: USA Today

President Donald Trump opened a new flank in his battle against illegal immigration on Monday when he ordered his administration to crack down on "visa overstays" – foreigners who legally enter the country but remain in the U.S. after their visas expire.

The president signed a memorandum ordering the secretary of state and the secretary of homeland security to submit plans within four months to crack down on overstays, such as punishing countries whose citizens have high rates of overstays and requiring foreign travelers to post "admission bonds" that would be repaid once they leave the country.

The order is the latest example of Trump's renewed push on immigration, following a shakeup of the Department of Homeland Security and his increasing frustration with the rising number of Central American migrants entering the country.

Members of both parties have long complained that overstays are just as problematic as undocumented immigrants who cross the southern border. More than 1.2 million foreigners overstayed their visas from 2016 to 2017, according to the most recent Homeland Security data.

oh Mr. Trump can say it is ..but who is going to enforce it?.. The border guards have enough to do.
Is Trumpy going down there to check documents..or stay in his room and check documents?

..so..1.2 million over stay..Trumpy needs to check that out himself..cause he is so, soo, soooo smart..

Trumpy defines the word jerk/idiot. (Apologies to all jerks and idiots out there).....

Of course it would be breaking a number of laws to do that but he does not really care to much about that.

then...... we would have a real constitutional crisis. Trumpy vs the military who will not follow orders to capture and throw out illegal immigrants. The generals might just say in unison....NO.!! illegal order..NO

Stopping brown people from entering and staying in our country, that is. That's all he has to run on. The economy? It's still Obama's economy, but even that is starting to fizzle out now. Taxes? He cut taxes for the wealthy and for corporations. The middle and lower classes didn't share the wealth of that give-away. He has absolutely nothing else to run on for his base.

Republicans had Trump's first two years in office to do anything they wanted. Both houses of Congress and the White House were in their control. Their tax cut was it. Big deal, and that was a scam. His "promises made, promises kept" bullshit is laughable, but his cult thinks he did everything under the sun for some reason. Because that what Donnie Dim-Wit tells them, that's why.

the bastard child of the Tea Party. He loves to boast that he can get the votes, but they wouldnt accept the DACA protections (which even trump said he wanted) in exchange for the border wall money.
Jim Jordan unwittingly caused trump the whole "wall" problem

The bond would have to be pretty steep to deter someone planning to overstay a visa. The end result will be to deter legal travelers.

All the Trump kids, except Tiffany, can be the first to have their birthright citizenship revoked, too, since their mother was either Czech or Slovenian.

he's ignored this in the past & only focused on border crossers. Because he thinks they're easily made the "bogeyman" to the knuckle draggers.

September because that's when her b2 expires. We're shuttling her back and forth because she has dementia and we're the only ones to care for her and still trying to maintain her Canadian benefits. Long term care would bankrupt us here in the states once we couldn't care for her any more.

the only one where folks overstay their visas. How do they communicate same to those who do, do they have the same percentage of overstays than we do? Does kicking out said overstays put them on a do not re-enter list?

I have more questions yet it seems on this topic most of us don't have these and other answers yet.

I guess my biggest question is, in raw numbers, does the USA suffer more overstays than most other countries...and why?

all non-citizens step off the plane, report to TSA for your ankle bracelet.

Track every ankle bracelet, with automatic notification to ICE if overstay, or tampering.

I don't know whether to tag with the balloon or not....
