GOP's Duncan Hunter gets called out as his fake 'crossing the border' stunt hilariously backfires

Source: raw story

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) pretended to cross the Mexico border, and in the process got called out by his Democratic challenger, Ammar Campa-Najjar.

Najjar said that if Hunter was crossing the border that it would be violating his parole.

“The congressman and his wife, who at times also served as his campaign treasurer, were indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2018 and pleaded not guilty to the charges at an arraignment days later. They were released on $15,000 bond. He will face trial later this year,” a report from Roll Call said. Adding that his bond “forbids him from traveling outside the continental United States.”

“It looks pretty tough to cross. Let me see if I can do it,” Hunter said in a video posted on Twitter, promoting his defense for a border wall...............

Duncan Hunter pretended to be crossing the US-Mexico border to show how easy it is but isn’t allowed outside the US because of his parole, and turns out actually he was faking crossing the border anyway

1. Roll Call has lots of details of Duncans stupid stunt............

https://www.rollcall.com/news/congress/rep-hunter-campa-najjar-bicker-over-congressmans-faux-border-crossing-video

....................According to the Times of San Diego, Hunter’s bond forbids him from traveling outside the continental United States.

In the video, Hunter eases himself over a railing before proclaiming, “That’s how easy it is to cross the border in Yuma, Arizona.”

But Hunter, the legally embattled Republican from California’s 50th District, did not actually cross into Mexico at the border as he appeared to claim in the video. The railing was a vehicle barrier positioned roughly 75 to 100 feet away from the Colorado River — the actual U.S.-Mexico border in Yuma.

“It looks pretty tough to cross. Let me see if I can do it,” Hunter says in the video, before sweeping his legs up and over the waist-high vehicle barrier’s horizontal bar and plopping down on the other side.

..................In another shot behind the vehicle barrier, Hunter says, “This is why we need a wall. This is why Trump is right. This is what we need to get rid of and expand upon to secure this country.”

Hunter spokesman Michael Harrison lambasted Campa-Najjar, saying the Democrat was seeking media attention and drumming up controversy.

“Congressman Hunter remained in the U.S. … I recognize our opponent is trying to create a headline, but I would encourage him and others to look and review a map,” Harrison said, per a reporter for POLITICO California.

Campa-Najjar fired back that Hunter was the one trying to stir the pot by claiming he was in Mexico.

Hunter either broke the law and violated the conditions of his release or was pulling a political stunt, Campa-Najjar said, according to the Times of San Diego.

3. Was he wearing his flak jacket for the danger zone?

Tactical protective gear for the tv camera

Reporter/journalist wore a backpack on his front to look like bomb/bullet protective gear

as he heroically went into a 'danger' zone.

The Internet was merciless in ridiculing him.

Lots of photoshop.

5. Gee, I dunno, he blames his felonies on his wife

and the people in his district still rally 'round him singing or chanting "Duncan, Duncan, he's our man," and vote for him. Heck, why would they do that if he wasn't a good guy? They'd have to be amoral, vile, ignorant POS's, themselves, if he wasn't, right?

6. WHY ARE PAROLEES AND CONVICTED CRIMINALS ALLOWED TO SERVE IN PUBLIC OFFICE TO BEGIN WITH?

Sorry. I'm a bit shouty this week.

They don't want convicted felons to vote, why should felons they be able to hold office and pass laws for other convicted felons?

8. Well

Not to defend him but it wasn't really parole he was breaking, it was the terms of his bond. He's not on parole, he's under indictment. He hasn't been convicted yet. So he's not a felon YET.

9. Shows the contempt he has for his voters

trying to fool them with such an idiotic stunt. Too bad this type of racist nonsense works on many of his constituents.

Was a rabbit involved?

10. Contempt is his middle name. If he thought his supporters would but into his lie (and they will) ...

it shows a certain amount of contempt for them.

NOT ONE REPUBLICAN has called this "fake news". It is the very definition of what they whine about everyday.

14. Lol. Ridiculous. I lived in Yuima for several years in thje early 80s. The river is the border at

Yuma , not any man-made barrier. What an a** hole -- trying to stay relevant among the repugnant base. Lock him up already.
