DHS acting deputy secretary resigns

BY TAL AXELROD - 04/09/19 07:33 PM EDT

Claire Grady, acting deputy secretary at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), offered President Trump her resignation Tuesday as the agency finds its upper ranks thinned after a string of departures.

Her exit comes after DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen announced Sunday she was leaving her post. Trump subsequently withdrew his nominee to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the White House announced that Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex" Alles would be departing the agency.

“For the last two years, Claire has served @DHSgov w excellence and distinction. She has been an invaluable asset to DHS – a steady force and a knowledgeable voice,” Nielsen tweeted in announcing Grady’s resignation, adding it will be effective Wednesday.

“Her sound leadership and effective oversight have impacted every DHS office and employee and made us stronger as a Department. Clair has had a remarkable career in public service - 28 years at the Departments of Homeland Security & Defense - that is coming to a close. I am thankful for Claire’s expertise, dedication & friendship & am filled w gratitude for her exemplary service to DHS & to our country," she continued in a series of tweets.

1. Trying to avoid prison once all of the dirt is exposed

crimes against humanity. Not sure that War Crimes apply, but I'm sure there is a UN crime that everyone in charge at DHS is responsible for.

2. That's a surprise. Does anyone know if that much service vested her

pension?

6. Yes-and No.

If she has 28 years of service , she is eligible for a FERS (Federal employee retirement service) pension, which begins payout upon reaching age 60. Its value is normally 1% of your final average high-3 salary, or, if you delay to age 62, is worth 1.1%.

So at 28 years of service, as a Deputy, the pension could be around $40k a year.

However, Claire Grady is currently age 51.(born November 1, 1967), so, if she leaves government service today, she has to wait until Age 60 before she can collect anything.

She may find another federal job someplace. I hear the Border Patrol has been trying to hire 7,500 new agents for a couple of years now, without success. But I don’t know if she can pass the entry tests.

8. Thank you for your detailed response. Much appreciated.

It still isn't clear to me whether she was fired.

3. tRump/Miller *had* to have pressured her.

By her stepping down the administration is able to avoid the legalities of appointing someone over her, since there are pretty straightforward rules about succession in government agencies. She *should* have become Acting Director, but tRumplethinskin wants to appoint yet another totally unqualified sycophant to the agency.

10. Told her to quit or she'd be fired. This can be legally done....

from what I've read. Must suck to have worked for so long yet had to quit....or else.

Trump and his evil cabal have struck fear into those civil servants not just at DHS but other agencies (FBI, Justice, etc.) and will sufffer less than optimal job performance. Also, the very best servants most often are the first to quit, leaving many mid-lower level groups essentaily leaderless, something Trump seems to enjoy.

Just look at all the acting heads and figure out how their staffs must view these alleged leaders! Bah, humbug they say!

4. So get rid of the people who only know how to make emergency responses work

Nebraska is facing catastrophic flooding and damage. Another big storm is hitting mid west. What’s the worst that can happen?

9. She had to be forcibly "retired."

When Trumpsky got rid of Kristjen - Ms Grady was next in line and should have taken control of DHS. But the moron in the White House had already tweet announced a hand picked lackey would be in charge. So... they canned Claire to avoid any “impropriety.”
