Vallejo releases video showing fatal police shooting of California rapper Willie McCoy

Source: NBC News

Police bodycam footage released Friday shows the fatal shooting of a California rapper who had been unresponsive in his car with a gun on his lap — and the moment six officers opened fire multiple times after he appeared to move his arm downward.

One 30-minute video begins with an explanation of the Vallejo Police Department's version of events on the night of Feb. 9, when Willie McCoy, 20, went to a Taco Bell drive-thru. Vallejo police also separately released raw footage taken from all six of the officers who fired their weapons.

The packaged video, which was shown to the McCoy family earlier this month, includes different angles of officers' bodycams. Neither McCoy's face nor the weapon are clearly visible, but one officer says he notices the gun with a magazine half out, so at the most it would have one bullet that could have been fired.

Police subtitles added to the video say the gun was actually loaded with an extended 14-round magazine.

took the most dangerous approach for everyone involved. Not only did they obviously put the life of the person they shot in danger, but also their own lives and bystanders lives. Had they approached it in a way that gave everyone more breathing room, then they wouldn't have been in a situation that required them to make split second decisions to shoot. Why not block the car in with their vehicles, move everyone out of the area, break the rear window of the vehicle and then use a loudspeaker or something to wake the guy up?

This reminds me of the Tamir Rice incident. The police move in so aggressively and close that it limits the time they have to make a judgement. Which ultimately lead to them shooting out of fear for their own lives. In this case, it's not as if they walked up and he reached for his gun when he saw them.

Lines and arrows applied to the video can't cover up murder. The guy was obviously intoxicated and not able to respond to their shrieked commands, or probably even hear them through the closed window.

So the gutless nitwits is blue blow him away.

Cops need to leave their guns in their cars most of the time.
