Vos won't testify in redistricting case.

Source: Milwaukee Journal / Sentinel. 3/21/19

The Rochester Republican and his attorneys refused to accept a subpoena, turn over documents and agree to have him sit for a deposition because they maintain he is immune from civil legal actions.

Democrat Attorney Ruth Greenwood responded; ďAssembly members, including Speaker Vos, have waived any claim to legislative immunity in this case by intervening as a defendant and actively participating in the litigation, including filing motions and discovery requests.Ē

1. "The tale of the tape" might be why.

The tale of the tape was the name of a resurrected spreadsheet that they deleted off a computer during redistricting....

/ Snip/

In 2011 Republicans tasked two staffers and a GOP redistricting expert with secretly drafting new maps. They worked at the Madison law office of Michael Best & Friedrich. Republican senators had to sign nondisclosure pledges to view drafts of their own districts.

Based on an analysis of voting trends, the drafters determined the existing maps would yield 49 Republican Assembly seats and 50 Democratic seats in the 2012 election. Using a computer program, drafters tinkered with the district boundaries to give Republicans a projected 54-45 advantage.

After consulting with Republican leadership, the drafters massaged the maps further to the point that, according to one spreadsheet, "59 Assembly seats are 50 percent or better" for Republicans. The spreadsheet labeled the data "Tale of the Tape," a reference to the measurement of each boxer's arm length before a match.

He says he won't... but can he be compelled?

Thanks for posting.

3. Thanks for bringing this up.

Republicans were ordered to submit their redistricting information from Michael Best and Friedrich to the courts be steadfastly refused. Now itís time to pay the piper, so what else would you expect from them? This will get very interesting in the next few months.

They never want the majority to rule our government and will do everything they can to keep the majority of people from voting for the government they want

10. "Democrat Attorney..." ?

Since this doesn't appear in the article, please fix. Proper grammar is "Democratic Attorney".

11. This has become a favorite rightwing tactic:

Effectively, it's "We're above the law, we don't have to cooperate."

Stonewalling when they don't want to deal with something - an investigation or legal matter. Rump and cronies are setting the example for them to follow, refusing to cooperate with Congressional requests for information. Which SHOULD be very big news now, if media was awake and alert instead of chasing silly diversions whipped up by Rumpled Bozo. (Quick history: Nixon withheld those tapes and eventually lost the case by an 8-0 SCOTUS vote... with 3 of the justices appointed by him.)

While I think eventually this tactic will fail for government officials when gov. matters are at issue (but who knows with how courts are being stacked), it draws out proceedings and forces up legal costs for both sides. They'll keep doing it until being forced to pay harsh penalties for their transgressions.
