Congressional candidate backs off abortion remark

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A Republican congressional candidate in California is backing off remarks he made that women who have abortions are more likely to get cancer.

The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/Qc8jVt ) Doug LaMalfa made the statement Monday during a debate, then repeated them to KRCR-TV.

A link between abortion and breast cancer has been the subject of medical studies but groups such as the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute concluded no scientific evidence backed such claims.

LaMalfa's campaign said in a statement Tuesday that he was misinformed. His consultant says the 1st Congressional District front-runner relied on information he read several years ago.

Sadly, LaMalfa is almost certain to win, but we can certainly undermine the Republican libertarian/fundamentalist alliance by highlighting these loony ravings. The Republicans will eventually lose out in the far north of California as well...

Why is it that Republican strategy seems to be built on fear? On any subject - fear is their motivator of followers. To be fair, can anyone think of any fear buttons we democrats are using? (Beyond the fear of rolling back all the progress of the last century.)

The things they say sound so overwhelmingly ignorant. Is this all part of the War On Science?

God punishes women who have had abortions by making future children disabled

I'm sure he thought he was scoring points there.

Also, this guy accepts buckets of money in farm subsidies while railing against big government.
