Virginia Governor Ralph Northam now denies appearing in a racist photograph that he on Friday apologized for, and claims he can prove it wasn't him.
The 59-year-old from Nassawadox has done a complete about face after apologizing for being in a picture of people wearing a Ku Klux Klan robe and blackface, Portsmouth Democrat Senator Louise Lucas learned during a private conversation.
An insider said Northam was willing to use facial recognition technology to prove he doesn't appear in the offending picture.
The Democratic party tweeted Saturday morning: 'We made the decision to let Governor Northam do the correct thing and resign this morning - we have gotten word he will not do so this morning.

Well, at least he didnt go with the "I was hacked" excuse so popular these days.

(26,035 posts)...did he pick that photo to appear in his half-page, or did someone on the yearbook staff do it without his permission? Because, if he chose the photo to appear as part of his display, Im not sure it matters whether hes in the picture or not.
Also, why wasnt this his first official reaction, instead of coming a day later, after his apology didnt play well? My immediate suspicion is that he knows he did appear in such photos at least on some occasions, and so admitted it before examining the photo and realizing this particular one wasnt of him.
Also, he now needs to explain what the coonman reference in a previous yearbook was about.

Don't rush to judgement.

"We just finished meeting with the Governor. We fully appreciate all that he has contributed to our Commonwealth. But given what was revealed today, it is clear he can no longer effectively serve as governor. It is time for him to resign, so that Virginia can begin the process of healing."

(26,080 posts)that could be considered racists since then but this pretty much now has me leaning in the other direction because if it was not him then why did he not say so in the first place?

(6,137 posts)Im glad he is standing up for himself and for his constituents. I wish Franken would have had more guts and not resign. Everyone deserves to be evaluated on their job performance. My understanding that his policies and rhetoric were never racist. Dem party did the right thing to ask him to resign but the choice is his and I respect it and glad that he is willing to continue.

(10,252 posts)This morning, I was ready to forgive this guy. But now, his statements are just getting stupid. In his apology, he said that he took full responsibility. Now, he says it wasn't him. But implies he blackfaced another time? WHAT kind of excuse it that? A crappy one, that's what.
There is no way, he would have forgotten such an episode in his yearbook. Either he did, it or he didn't. There is no 3rd position about it. If he was innocent, he would have been yelling holy-moly from the rafters from the gitgo. This bullshit trying to save his ass with really very stupid comments tells me, he needs to go. He makes bad decisions and has bad judgement.
Nuff said.
